lighting bolt and gear icon

My Nokia Lumia 920 shows the lightning bolt and gear icon. does not start and is frozen on that icon.

So lets try this and see if it helps.

Hard Reset using buttons:

Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds.

A HAD SAME PROBLEM TOOK OUT MEMORY CARD ATTACHED TO LAPTOP AND PRESSED VOLUME <DOWN> AND POWER BUTTON AND IT CAME ON

    I thought you were concerned about warranty. By the was the carrier does add SW, and does the product certification on their network. It is a complex ecosystem

    Well good news, after taking the SIM in and out and resetting the phone for what seemed like the seventieth time it magically started working. So all I can tell you is that resolving this takes a lot of persistence. (more than it should) This situation shows the value of a removable battery as that allows for a more thorough restart. I've never had a problem like this with a phone that has a removable battery.
