lighting bolt and gear icon

My Nokia Lumia 920 shows the lightning bolt and gear icon. does not start and is frozen on that icon.

So lets try this and see if it helps.

Hard Reset using buttons:

Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds.

A HAD SAME PROBLEM TOOK OUT MEMORY CARD ATTACHED TO LAPTOP AND PRESSED VOLUME <DOWN> AND POWER BUTTON AND IT CAME ON

    I had spent a whole day puzzled by this. My screen went from turning cogs (or gears) to a single cog with lightening bolt, but never booted up.

    That is until I followed your steps a few times. Whilst the phone was in a spinning cog episode, I followed the hard reset buttons:

    "Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds."

    It took a couple of attempts, but eventually after a few minutes of cog spinning it rebooted to the Windows splash screen! The phone was plugged in and charging.

    I was so close to attempting to send it back to Nokia. You saved me a lot of hastle.

    After a couple of tries of resetting the phone it would just go to the black nokia screen then a solid blue screen was still under warranty so i sent it back and got a new one. happy to have my nokia back
