So lets try this and see if it helps.

Hard Reset using buttons:

Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds.

Make sure it had a full battery before you start. If it powers off during the reset, it could damage the device irreparably. We recommend charging the device for a few hours before performing the reset.

    1. Make sure the phone is powered off completely
    2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button
    3. Tap the POWER button while still holding the VOLUME DOWN button
    4. When an icon appears on the screen, release the VOLUME DOWN button
    5. Press the following buttons in this exact sequence:
    6. VOLUME UP > VOLUME DOWN > POWER > VOLUME DOWN
    7. You phone will now restart and perform a reset. It may take several minutes and restart more than once. Do not disturb it while it performs these processes.
    8. If the phone is still unresponsive, I would suggest contacting your carrier (MO) for this issue.

I had to do this once on my device and it took several attempts for it to work.  I'm not sure why, it might have been the timing of pressing the VOLUME UP > VOLUME DOWN > POWER > VOLUME DOWN.  It will however be clear that if you do it correctly you will see it reset and start up again.  The cogs will still be there but if you go have a cup of coffee, when you come back the device will be off.  Turn it on and it will be working .... that is what I did.

It Works !!!!!!!!! You are the best man !!!!!

I'm setting accounts and that stuff... I was just desolated, devastated... Forsaken !!

    THANK YOU !!!

    Hi,

I have a nokia lumia 920, bought on amazon.com, Portico Updated. Three weeks ago, I did a Factory Reset. Phone was stuck in cog wheels for 3 days. I'm trying the combination suggested for Jack Cook:

Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds.

Phone shows Nokia logo, then low battery sign, and immediately turns off. Nothing more happens later... Phone just keeps turned off.

Very frustated here... I have repeated the method 3 times, no succes...

    Thanks for your help.
