So lets try this and see if it helps.
Hard Reset using buttons:
Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds.

A HAD SAME PROBLEM TOOK OUT MEMORY CARD ATTACHED TO LAPTOP AND PRESSED VOLUME <DOWN> AND POWER BUTTON AND IT CAME ON

the gear and bolt appears when you start the lumia with the VOLUME UP pressed.
Just press and hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER and the phone will restart.
Simple as drinking a glass of water and the camera button has nothing to do here.

2013-10-13T01:54:04+00:00 Mine still doesn't work. I have tried soft resetting the phone but it keeps going to the battery signal. I have tried the hard reset, still the same problem. I have tried plugging it in and doing it, still the same issue.

2013-09-30T03:42:10+00:00 Tadevinney I have been having the same issue as you. Did you try the process mentioned above while the lightening bolt was on the screen? Or did you somehow turn it off first? I cannot seem to get mine to do anything with that lightning bolt on the screen
