Try this :D

Turn off the phone, Once the phone is off, Hold the Volume down key then plug the charger (charger should be connected to the power source ",) Once you see the excalmation ( ! ), remove your finger from the button.

Then press the following keys in, Volume Up, Volume Down, Power Key and Volume down. The phone will turn on automatically, this may take several minutes and it will show two gears that are spinning just wait for it to finish.

One more thing all the files on the phone will be deleted but if you have a microsoft account on the phone, check people.live.com to check the contact lists that you have and skydrive for the pictures, that's if you have a microsoft account on the phone.

cheers!

Hi, I also ran into the blue screen + sad face problem, but not happened to the firmware upgrade process.

The below description is the situation I met.

My phone is Lumia 1020 with Cyan WP8.1 firmware.

I found an app which I have used it for a long time on WP8.1 Cyan suddenly always quit after I started it 15 seconds later few days ago.

I tried to re-install this app and made sure there was an updated version released on these few days, but there wasn't, and the app still always quit after I re-installed it.

Therefore I thought maybe restarting my phone can fix the app quitting issue, then I pressed volume down + power key to restart and it ran into the blue screen + sad face.

After I used the Nokia Software Recovery Tool to re-install the firmware and restored my phone account, that app still always quit.

It seems that I just can give up that app... so what happen to the WP8.1?

Two days ago, I found the "Photos" app on my mother's Lumia 625 ran into the same issue, which always quit after I start it 15 seconds later, and I just updated this Lumia 625 to WP8.1 Cyan for four days...

I have no idea how to fix this issue and I am afraid to run into the blue screen + sad face again...
