Try this :D

Turn off the phone, Once the phone is off, Hold the Volume down key then plug the charger (charger should be connected to the power source ",) Once you see the excalmation ( ! ), remove your finger from the button.

Then press the following keys in, Volume Up, Volume Down, Power Key and Volume down. The phone will turn on automatically, this may take several minutes and it will show two gears that are spinning just wait for it to finish.

One more thing all the files on the phone will be deleted but if you have a microsoft account on the phone, check people.live.com to check the contact lists that you have and skydrive for the pictures, that's if you have a microsoft account on the phone.

cheers!

Turn off the phone, Once the phone is off, Hold the Volume down key then plug the charger (charger should be connected to the power source ",) Once you see the exclamation ( ! ), remove your finger from the button.

Then press the following keys in, Volume Up, Volume Down, Power Key and Volume down. The phone will turn on automatically, this may take several minutes and it will show two gears that are spinning just wait for it to finish.

It may take a while to get the second part correct.  Be careful as you do it making sure that you actually press the buttons and follow the sequence carefully.  The phone should vibrate, reboot and the gears will appear again.  Go have a cup of coffee then come back and see if it is done.

I had a similar situation, did the above and when I returned my device was off.  I turned it on and it was working!  Good luck!

I have tried every single step you have mentioned. My Nokia Lumia 520 has gone from two spinning cogwheels, to a lightning bolt with a cogwheel to a frowny face. None of your steps have helped get even close to restoring my phone to normal. Heck, I've tried to let the battery die but now I can put it on charge for at least 20 hours and the phone will still be almost dead. I don't know what to do anymore. Is there any other way to restore my phone to normal?
