Service Pack 2 for Office 2010 update fail - Error 8024002D

This is one of the big reasons I give for people to switch from MS products to ANYTHING else. This problem was reported 6 months ago and there is still ABSOLUTELY NO SOLUTION to the issue. Here's what I am seeing. Directory C:\MSOCache exists. This update fails using Windows Update. It fails when attempting the install using the full file update I downloaded (if it is a full-file updater, how the **** can it fail by not finding the file that should have been unpacked from the downloaded package, after all it claims it is a full-file installer?!). Attempting to do a repair install of Office from Programs and Features fails. Doing a repair install from the original media (downloaded .EXE file) fails because it cannot find a setup file that it unpacked in the first part of the process. (WTF?) Software engineers, my ****. If the owner of the laptop was not locked into Windows/MS Office due to classroom requirements, I would have suggested wiping the system and replacing it with Linux. After all, when I update Linux installations, there has NEVER been an instance of it not finding something it needs to do the update. In the rare instance that something goes wrong with ANYTHING else, I can easily find an accurate answer on the web. With MS, I can't even get an adequate response using their own **** site. So, 6 months after this thread was started, there is NO SOLUTION. Nobody from Microsoft appears to have checked in at all with anything that can fix the problem. And a Community Moderator has checked in only to request information from someone else to get the same information that was provided in the original post which is probably why the second poster found this thread in the first place. Now, with all of this shoddy **** happening on the Microsoft front, why do they still expect people to pay good money to upgrade to newer versions of their software when they cannot even provide any kind of real support for the products nor an effective means of reliably patching the software?

I only became aware of the post I am now responding to today. I hope my belated response helps anyone having the problem, and looking for a solution.

0x8024002D WU_E_SOURCE_ABSENT A full-file update could not be installed because it required the source.

My interpretation of this statement is that the system is looking for a source which is not available at the time the check was made. It could be a changed file path where the partition drive letter has changed as a result of switching drives in and out of the computer or that a device has been removed.
