Problem with wireless adapter or Access point

Yeah, although at least you don't lose hundreds of dollars or days of time.  A reinstall takes about 20 minutes (if you have an i5 processor with at least 4GB of RAM), and reinstalling your favorite browsers, office programs, games... maybe another couple hours tops.  So at the cost of maybe an evening or weekend afternoon, you've got a PC that's "like new" with no accumulated junk or issues. Not ideal, but definitely better than shelling out a ton of money on something new.

I have an hp laptop w/realtech adapter & Win 8.1.  I lose connection to our Brighthouse wireless up to 10 Xs a day. I have replaced the adapter driver ..windows says I have the latest driver. Yet I still LOSE my connection. The other computer in the house is a Lenova which NEVER has trouble dropping connection. Have a smartphone that does NOT lose connection either. When I troubleshoot...Says the ethernet wire is loose...I HAVE NO WIRE !!  This is wireless connection :( :(  Or it says the "adapter" has trouble or it says: "the gateway/access point" is not available & usually does NOT fix it :( :(  Have to turn OFF the laptop to bring it back.  THIS is "Disgusting" !!  Judy

It could be similar to the issue that hit the world this week where Google Chromecast and Cast-enabled TVs and other devices were sending hundreds of thousands of extra packets and causing routers to crash.

The best thing to do in situations like this is to go to the manufacturer that made it and get all the updates for every endpoint you can.  Also, typically you would want to avoid going to the wireless card manufacturer (like Broadcom or Qualcom) and instead go to your computer manufacturer (Dell, Acer, HP, Asus, Toshiba, whatever).  The computer assembler will usually have the better driver for your model, a better site to find/download it, and better support.  And while you're there you can get the other updates/drivers/firmware/BIOS updates.

Do not use the "Windows driver update" tool, as it won't find the drivers that your manufacturer gives unless that manufacturer happens to participate in the Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification process, which most don't bother.  So yes you'll see "you have the latest driver" even if that's false.  PC manufacturer is where it's at.

You'd also need to repeat this for the router's firmware too -- even if only one computer has the issue, the firmware compatibility between both ends must be up to date to resolve all known/discovered issues.  Unless your case is truly absolutely unique, the odds are that other people have encountered the same problem and that updates are available to fix it.  Be prepared to test it on another wifi network too, just to test if there is a difference. Another router, or take it to a friend's house or coffee shop.

If it still doesn't work, contact the manufacturer that made it (HP).  They have to warrant that it will work, one way or another.

I picked the 'driver' for the adapter myself & yesterday is worked great w/this new driver; However today I've been kicked of the net prob 20 Xs ...This is Rediculous.

My friend w/a Lenova has NO trouble at all or on his smart phone either :( :(

I get this message:  "connection between access point, router or cable modem and the internet is broken.  Then I trouble shoot.  The I get the message "problem with wireless adapter or access point".  

The internet connection works again.  

The reason for this is - when watching something on the internet - it goes to streaming and never connects.

Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!
