Srttrail.txt error and keeps on automatic repairing

Original title: I have the srttrail.txt error

I have srttrail.txt error and keeps on automatic repairing and then giving me the option to advance repair and shut down I have tried to start it up in safe mode but the same happens it goes in to automatic repair and you get the same two options and I am now at a loss of what to do next please help me as I am lost without my PC working

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will definitely help you in fixing the issue.

Did you make any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

**Method 1:**Disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) Except mouse and the keyboard and then boot up. If this corrects the issue then add the devices back one at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any updated drivers\software for the device.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to perform a startup repair using Windows 8 bootable DVD or USB drive and check if that helps.

a) Insert the installation DVD or USB and boot Windows 8 from it.

b) In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the ‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.

c) Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.

d) Click on ‘Advanced options’ and select ‘Automatic Repair’ and select the operating system.

Method 3:

If the issue persists then you may perform a refresh of the Operating System,

Refer the steps for the same-

a) Boot with the Windows 8 DVD and then select “Next”.

b) Now, select “Repair” and then select “Refresh your PC”.

So you have been able to get in the Advanced Options? Then you should be able to get into the Command only boot and use the tools there, first to find out what has gone wrong and second to fix it (depending on what that analysis determined.) Have you looked at the srttrail.txt for clues at least? Other significant logs are supposedly in a directory called Panther.

Not really. As I indicated my approach would be to try to look at the available diagnostics. I am willing to try to help with suggestions. But it still isn't clear to me how far you have been able to get into the Advanced Options.

FWIW I don't think the one that you found is a sufficient clue about what went wrong. Also, I wasn't sure how you had acquired it. I have had the impression that people might have been transcribing such information from a message window rather than actually opening the file itself. E.g. if that was its entire content then I think it is completely inadequate as a useful clue. Then perhaps go and have a look at setuperr.log or some of the other files the install creates. Sort by Date Modified so you know which ones were written last.

Reset your PC asked for a disk....and apparently the Windows 8 Pro upgrade disk isn't the one that it wants as it tells me that it's not the right one.

It wants your bootable media.

I think I have seen somewhere someone's suggestion for creating it even after you need to use it but it may not have been on that help site.

gave "Advanced Options" a whirl......and it does nothing....just sits there.

It should be showing you a menu and a Restart button, so my guess is your boot records need to be rebuilt.   Commands for doing that would be in the bootable media too.

But it sounds like you are getting a boot of some kind, so maybe something else is wrong, e.g. video seems to be a common problem area.

That is about getting diagnostics to try to understand your crash symptom. You need something bootable to do that.

Ok....so I loaded Windows 8 onto the Laptop and for about a week, other than trying to find stuff, I had no major issues....until this morning... Last night I watched the TV shows Grey's Anatomy on CTV and Scandal on City TV then I closed the lid and went to sleep.

This morning I opened the lid and it said that there was something wrong and my screen says

Preparing Automatic Repair

then the next screen says

Diagnosing your PC

the next screen

Automatic Repair

Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC Press "Advanced Options" to try other options to repair your PC or "Shut down" to turn off your PC Log file C:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt

so I clicked on ADVANCED OPTIONS

and the next screen says

CHOOSE AN OPTION

Continue

Exit and Continue to Windows 8 (Obviously this was my first choice....sadly nothing happened after 2 hours)

Troubleshoot Refresh or reset your PC of use advanced tools

Turrn Off your PC

Well when Exit and continue to Windows 8 didn't work I went with "plan B" ....Troubleshoot

TROUBLESHOOT

Refresh your PC If your PC isn't running well, you can refresh it without loosing your files

Reset your PC If you want to remove all of your files, you can reset your PC completely

Ok....so I tried all of these in order Refresh your PC did nothing, Reset your PC asked for a disk....and apparently the Windows 8 Pro upgrade disk isn't the one that it wants as it tells me that it's not the right one. I also tried putting in the disks that put this computer back to the factory defaults, also apparently also not the right disks.

So.....on the next round I gave "Advanced Options" a whirl......and it does nothing....just sits there.

This is my laptop computer,the only thing attached to it is the mouse. The only thing I can remember downloading was "Calc" the spread sheet program from Open Office. I'm not concerned about losing any files, I backed them all up before I installed Windows 8 Pro Upgrade. It came with Windows Vista pre-installed so I don't have any disks for Vista and all I have for Windows 8 is the Windows 8 Pro upgrade disk. How do I fix this? The answer above regarding Windows 7 being installed on a different drive etc. honestly just confused the supreme poopy out of me so of course the other "answer" that keeps talking about a Panther folder confuses me even more. That should give you some idea of my level of comprehension when it comes to computers.

Can anyone help me at a level that I might be able to understand?
