This error code suddenly appears in WIndows 8 Store when trying to install or update apps....  Solutions to this have not yet been found.

There are many references to some date and time issues but they are correct on my Computer.

I did use the troubleshouter for Windows update which states that something has been corrected.

There are errors in my Event logs...

ID 36888 System Log; A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 10. The Windows SChannel error state is 10.

this is a fairly new Installation...

The steps that worked for me were,

Running wsreset.exe as admin. to do that I went to start, typed wsreset and right clicked and run as admin.

Then I went to control panel and run the Windows Update troubleshooter. Now my apps are installing.

Maybe some steps were unnecessary, so may someone with more experience improve my response.

Are you running RT or Pro?

Is it an upgrade or an original operating system?

Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941 and scroll down to the "Resolution" section and click on Microsoft Fix It. Once you run the scan it will tell you that you need to restart your computer. DO NOT restart it. Do a hard shut down by pressing down on your power button. This just worked for me and I hope it works for you as well. Very frustrating issue.

I just called a friend using a Lenovo Z585. She tried the above fix (very important ---Do hard shutdown). And it worked. We'll see if this fix stays. Thanks to "I aim to misbehave"

This worked for me, too. However, if you have your power button behavior set to gracefully shutdown Windows, you will need to change it to "Do Nothing" before attempting this solution. In order for it to work it you need to execute a hard shutdown (which means holding the power button down for at least 5 seconds) or until the system shuts off. It seems the Windows graceful shut down sequence undo's all the fixes the tool executes during the shutdown process.

Great find!! one less headache to worry about.

    Regards,

    Louis

Try this - it worked for me. I was beating my head against a wall.

Open Computer Management >Services & Applications > Services

Stop "Background Intelligent File Transfer" & Windows Update services

Delete contents of "c:\Windows\Software Distribution" folder

    Restart above services

Open control panel and run Windows Update

Open App Store and open settings

Run App update and install updated apps

    Good Luck

This has also happened to me. I was notified (in windows store) that there were updates to finance, sports, news, travel, Kindle. None of them will update and now I cannot install any new apps. It just says it could not install the update and uses error code: 80240437. As far as I can tell that is MS speak for "I don't know what happened!" It has also happened this week to my daughters new dell tablet. I am running Windows 8 Pro and she is running Windows 8 RT. We have run the troubleshooter, the wsreset, checked the proxy, and are both using the MS virus checker. Based on the recent flurry of posts across the web I am beginning to think it is an update MS sent out. Short of completely stripping and reloading the machine, anyone have any more ideas? I have the same issue and cannot find a fix anywhere on the web! Windows 8 is junk! I have had my machine for 5 days and everything worked fine until yesterday 8/29/13 and no matter what I try I cannot fix this error. MS doesn't know their **** from their elbow! I am seriously considering taking this machine back and going to an Apple. Why people are forced into buying a non functioning OS rather than having the option to have Win7 is madness!!!! I hate you Bill Gates!!!!! I have been a loyal PC guy my entire life and this is what I get? A busted **** OS that MS employees cannot fix!!!! Figures! You would think this would be priority for them, but I guess pocketing my $$$ for a OS that doesn't work is more important. The world should work on freeware!!!!

Did you follow the link from "I aim to misbehave"? It is what fixed my Windows 8 Pro.

As I said in another post I just did a refresh on my daughter's Dell and it works fine now.  I hope that helps. Good luck.

    Thank you so much.

I have had issue for over a week.  The suggestion from "I aim to misbehave" did the trick.

I have an HP Envy and use my machine on my own wireless network  (no proxy).  I just have standard software plus Office 365 and iTunes.  I was trying to update from the Store - News, Kindle, Travel, HPConnected Photo, and YouCam for HP.

At any rate, I ran the Microsoft Fix It and did a hard shut down; waited 5 mins restarted; went to "Store" and installed all 5 updates (1 at a time) and it worked great.

    Again thank you.

    Marion
