Hello Maheeb,

Welcome to Microsoft community where you will get best solutions for Windows related issues.

I understand that you have hard time opening Microsoft Store in Windows 8. I would definitely help you in fixing this issue.

Let us start with couple of questions:

1.       Which account are you using to login, Microsoft or Local account?

2.       Do you have proxy server enabled on Windows 8?

3.       Is the issue specific with Windows Store or with other applications as well?

Perform the following troubleshooting methods to fix the Store issues:

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run Windows 8 App troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

You can download the app troubleshooter form this link “Windows 8 App Troubleshooter”.

Method 2:

If you are using Microsoft account, then I would suggest you to switch to Local account and then check how the apps work.

Follow these steps to switch from Microsoft to Local account.

a.       Press “Windows key +W”.

b.      Type “users” without quotes in the search box.

c.       Then select “Users” from the left panel.

d.      You will get an option “Switch to a Local account” right below your user account name.

e.      Select “Switch to a local account” option.

f.        Enter the required details.

g.       Then login to the local account then check how the apps work.

If you are using Local account, then I would suggest you to switch to Microsoft account and then check how the apps work.

Follow these steps to switch from Local account to Microsoft account:

a.       Press “Windows key +W”.

b.      Type “users” without quotes in the search box.

c.       Then select “Users” from the left panel.

d.      Select “Switch to Microsoft account” right below your user account name.

e.      Enter the required details.

f.        Restart the computer and then try to login using new Microsoft account.

Method 3:

If that doesn’t work, then I would suggest you to create a new user account and then check how the apps work with new user account.

Follow these steps:

a.       Press “Windows Key + W”.

b.      Type Users in the search box and select “Users” option from the left panel.

c.       Select “Add Users” under “Other users” option.

d.      Add the user profile details.

e.      Then login to the new user account and then check if this fixes the issue.

I hope this helps you to fix the Store issue. If the issue persists or you have any other issues with Windows, please do post it in Microsoft Community. We would be happy to help you.

    Hello Bill,

    1.       What is the exact issue with Windows 8 Store?

    2.       By any chance have you configured proxy server on the computer?

    3.       Do you have any third party security software installed on the computer?

    4.       Which type of Internet connection are you using, either metered or Non-metered?

If you have issues with store it might be caused due to various reasons:

    -   Due to Proxy server.

    -   Due to metered Internet connection.

    -   Due to corrupted User profile.

    Perform the following troubleshooting methods:

    Method 1:

Internet service providers can charge by the amount of data used (the amount of data sent and received by your PC). That's called a metered Internet connection.

These plans often have a data limit, and if you exceed the limit you might have to pay extra. In some cases, you aren't charged extra but your connection speed becomes slower until the billing cycle ends.

You may have to change Metered network connection to non- metered connection and check if this fixes the issue.

Refer to the steps “How do I change my current network connection to metered (or non-metered)?” from the article “Metered Internet connections: Frequently asked questions” to know how to change the Metered network connection to Non-metered connection.

    Method 2:

If you have proxy server configured, then you may have to disable proxy server for the Windows Store to function properly.

Follow these steps to disable Proxy Server:

    a.       Press “Windows Key +R” from the keyboard.

    b.      Type “inetcpl.cpl” without quotes in the Run window and hit Enter key.

    c.       Click the “Connections” tab, and then click “LAN settings”.

    d.      Remove the check mark next to “Use a proxy server for your LAN”.

    e.      Click Ok.

    Method 3:

Clear Windows Store cache and check how it works.

    Follow these steps:

    a.       Press “Windows key + R” from the keyboard.

    b.      Type "wsreset.exe" without quotes in Run window and press Enter.

    c.       This will clear the Store cache.

I hope this helps you to fix the issue. If the issue persists or you have any other issues with Windows, please do post it in Microsoft Community. We would be happy to help you.

    Method 4:

Run Windows App troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue with Windows 8 apps and Store.

You can download the Windows 8 App troubleshooter from this link "App Troubleshooter".

What to do if you have problems with an app

    Method 5:

Run Microsoft account troubleshooter to diagnose and fix issues related to Microsoft account.

You can download the Microsoft Account troubleshooter from this link “Microsoft Account Troubleshooter”.

I hope this helps you to fix the issue. If the issue persists or you have any other issues with Windows, please do post it in Microsoft Community. We would be happy to help you.

"I would suggest you to perform a Refresh of Windows 8 to fix all the issue.

Refer to the link “How to restore, refresh, or reset your PC” to know how to refresh Windows 8.

Important: Refreshing Windows 8 will remove all third party applications installed and it will reset all the Microsoft applications to default."

    NOT A SOLUTION!!!

one of the tiles that does not work is "change pc settings"  it returns a monochrome screen.

I have tried sfc/scannow, checked times and date, loaded the most recent 8.1 video driver and several other things from the boards. I spent several hours under Microsoft support control. Nothing has worked.

I would be gateful like to hear any additional suggestions.

I  have to agree here, I can't DL  8.1 through  the Store,  and am about to do a full  backup  and  go  back  to Win 7.  Toss  W8  into  some dark corner of  my  closet and recommend to friends not to buy it.
