Installed this today, it caused my Poppeeper to be flagged with a -1000 error. Rolled computer back and problem cured. Have hidden update until i know what to do.

YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
 not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

    In my case Gerry the recovery process was the only was to do anything. I had to restore to get Windows 7 to even operate. Like a bad penny this update keeps coming back annoying me!

    I tried that on one of my test machines and same problem I had prior, ie hung up, firefox also

    and I lost the areo.  Uninstalled it- all was well

    right click the update and click Hide and you will not see it again

    something to think about,  this update is a pre req to IE10,

    On one of my test machines where i hid the update, I installed IE 10 from micrososft download site

    It installed just fine with no problems, so far anyway and it did not ask me to install that update

    Firefox works and so does aero

    so what i do not understand is why we needed this if ie 10 installs without it
