Installed this today, it caused my Poppeeper to be flagged with a -1000 error. Rolled computer back and problem cured. Have hidden update until i know what to do.

YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
 not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

    As of 27 February 2013, KB2670838 was no longer being offered via Automatic Updates...

    UPDATE: It would appear that KB2670838 may be offered to qualifying computers again (i.e., on & after 12 March 2013) but it wouldn't be automatically installed.

    I did choose to install IE10 (because I have WU set to notify only, all updates are my choice) but IE10 is listed as an important update, not optional or recommended, so I assume it would have installed automatically if I used the default update settings.

    The JXR file issue (that was the main problem for me at the time some days ago) and that I thought KB2670838 was all about has (I'm pretty sure) been figured in the mix somehow in the other updates offered today. Immediately after installing IE10 and others today the same nag messages about the JXR files started. That to me indicates that some of the intended content of that update has been included elsewhere.

    I can see from the other postings that it has caused a lot of grief generally. Fingers crossed and all looks good now. I can open JXR files (despite having to say no to the photo gallery pop up asking if I want to be able to open these files) and after the hiccup with the weather gadget (that was non recoverable with KB2670838) all seems well.

    As far as I know, IE10 is only be "pushed" via Automatic Updates to Win7 computers where IE10 Release Preview is installed.

    If you did not have IE10 RP installed, MS sez IE10 would NOT have been installed via Automatic Updates.

    That being said, chances are you will be prompted to Approve the install (but not necessarily the download) of IE10 when it is "pushed" via Automatic Updates later this year (possibly within the next month or two).

    IE10  turned up here today as an Important update but not automatically checked. I left it unchecked and all other updates downloaded nicely.
