YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

    Release Date: February 26, 2013

This update does not replace a previously released update.

This is strange because update KB2670838 was pre-released in November 2012.

There is a connection to Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10:

Have you previously installed Internet Explorer 10?

Select Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, View Installed Updates and check to see whether KB2670838 is already installed. If it is please confirm the date it was installed?

I also had a problem.  After installing this update Windows Live Mail display has a black background.  It makes Windows Live Mail unusable.  Rolling the update back corrects the problem.

If you look at the other post in here about this update, lots are having different problems.

This update is suppose to be a pre rec to ie10 but it does not say it anywhere on Microsofts page for this update.

the problem is it is breaking ie9, firefox, google chrome, Micrsoft Office 2010 and a whole bunch of other programs.

Remove this using program and features, reboot and everything goes back to normal.

Microsoft if you are looking in here you need to issue a fix for this update.

What is interesting I went to the ie10 website, downloaded and installed it on a test machine I run and it did not ask me for this update (I did not install it on this machine prior).  I actually do not see a difference between ie 9 and 10.  but i will not put ie10 on till micrososft gets all these bugs out on my non test machines.

just to second this... or third it... installed KB2670838and aero transparency was lost.  even 3ds max wouldn't load because of it.

removed the KB2670838 update and all worked again... i am now removing it from our WSUS update server to prevent issues with other systems.
