YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

Just for awareness, I experienced problems on installation on a home-build desktop machine.  As other users have indicated, this update causes errors in 32-bit IE9 and Firefox.   Nothing loads.  Went through the usual suspects for the two browsers, e.g., malware, starting with no add-ons, uninstalling/reinstalling, and nothing worked.  Chrome and 64-bit IE continued to function.

Agree it is a hardware specific thing, as this update has installed on other machines (desktop and two additional laptops) with no issues.  Uninstalled the update from the problem machine and all returned to normal.

Get to understand your startup items relating the browser Add-Ons. Some toolbars are difficult to remove.

To identify what loads when you boot use Autoruns (freeware from Microsoft).

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting, or you can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than editing the Registry and better than using msconfig.

A useful feature of the programme is that you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information about the item selected.

    A useful guide:

I'm sure that you are right about that. I uninstalled I9, searched the registry and deleted all explorer and reinstalled. Still will not load websites. Any ideas to fix would be appreciated. Fox fire is ok but I prefer I9.

I feel like it was a previous Microsoft upgrade that caused the problem. I have no idea which one.

    Thanks,

    Dwayne
