Installed this today, it caused my Poppeeper to be flagged with a -1000 error. Rolled computer back and problem cured. Have hidden update until i know what to do.

YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
 not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

    As of 27 February 2013, KB2670838 was no longer being offered via Automatic Updates...

    UPDATE: It would appear that KB2670838 may be offered to qualifying computers again (i.e., on & after 12 March 2013) but it wouldn't be automatically installed.

    If you chose to install IE10, KB2670838 would have been "drive-by" installed by default. If it's not listed in Installed Updates, something's (still?) wrong with your computer.

    When MS starts "pushing" IE10 to all Win7 SP1 users, they'll probably start offering no-charge phone support. For now, your on your own so caveat emptor.

    As of 27 February 2013, KB2670838 was no longer being offered via Automatic Updates - but it's still offered as an Optional, non-security update if you run a manual check for updates.

     

    And if you choose to install (upgrade to) IE10, KB2670838 will be installed, too.

    I've only just found this thread but this update caused me problems by breaking the W7 weather gadget and constantly giving pop up messages regarding .JXR files whenever photo gallery was opened. I  rolled the system back and just left this update uninstalled to see what happened in the coming days/weeks and whether it would be pulled.

    Anyway, today I installed IE10 and other updates and found that KB2670838 which has been continually showing as an optional update had vanished. The .JRX message was back and this time clicking "no" to the question "do I want photo gallery to open these files" got rid of the message. Testing the gallery with a .wdp file shows it opens them anyway.

    There is no sign of KB2670838 in the installed update history despite now running IE10 (which is great by the way)

    The weather gadget was pancaked again failing to update although re-entering a location seems (fingers crossed) to have got it working.

    Using the uninstall feature on the update in "Programs and Features" caused the system to hang on the "Configuring Updates..Do not turn off.." screen. Waited 15 minutes,  no change. Finally  did have to manually power-cycle the box. All came up clean]

    FWIW, I had the same experience on one of three PCs.

    KB2670838 is definately tied to IE10. On two boxes, I had installed KB2670838 and IE10. When I uninstalled KB2670838, IE10 was also uninstalled.

    On a third box, I tried installing IE10 without first installing KB2670838. KB2670838 was installed anyway. I went back and uninstalled KB2670838 and like the first two boxes, IE10 was rolled back to IE9.
