Nurifa,

Click Start (Press “Windows Key + Q” to open Charms Bar.)

Type: cmd

Right click on cmd in start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'

Type: net stop wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

Hit Enter

Type: net start wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: exit

Hit Enter

Attempt to download updates

    If you have the Windows Store open, then you will get an access is denied, you need to close it before you do the following command  ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

    Im having the same problem too. I tried yours and nothing changed

    What exactly does running those command prompts as well as what Kapil Arya do?

    Excuse me but im trying to update to windows 8.1 and it says the error code 0x80070003 and it said could not install. btw when i type****ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.oldpart it wont work it says wrong command
