Nurifa,

Click Start (Press “Windows Key + Q” to open Charms Bar.)

Type: cmd

Right click on cmd in start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'

Type: net stop wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

Hit Enter

Type: net start wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: exit

Hit Enter

Attempt to download updates

    When I type in the ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistributionsoftwaredistribution.old

    I get "the syntax of the command is incorrect". Any solutions to this?

    Hi 

    try to open command with elevated prompt.

    click on windows logo and type cmd right click on cmd icon and click on run as administrator , when it will ask for 

    do allow this to make changes provide click on yes and try performing the steps again. few of them will shows access denied you just click ok and keep on going at the end close it ad restart and try to run update again.

    If you still face problem just update me. with the specific error message. 

    give me the info operating system.

    anitivirus name.
