Nurifa,

Click Start (Press “Windows Key + Q” to open Charms Bar.)

Type: cmd

Right click on cmd in start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'

Type: net stop wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

Hit Enter

Type: net start wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: exit

Hit Enter

Attempt to download updates

    are you kidding? were did you source that instruction? because it smells an awful lot like this...

    yeah... that should look familiar. and it didn't work.

    im trying to update a win7sp1. its restore image is circa 2011-12. i did this 8 months ago without a catch... why is it bugging up now?

    on a fun note, after applying the "fix" suggested in the link, windows update diagnostic thinks it actually fixes the problem. never mind that it finds the same problem again on successive runs and continues to try the same non fix solution.

    but seriously... why doesnt any one on this thread list the sources of their "fixes"? 

    "oh yeah and try this complicated nonsense. i came up with it all on my own... wink wink nudge nudge say no more. just dont ask me what it does or how it works."
