Windows Phones are the only portable devices that can play music from the Music Pass.
XBox Music Pass compatible MP3 players
I need a specific question answered. I will ask it two ways:
1) What are some examples of a XBox Music Pass compatible MP3 player (besides a computer, Xbox, tablet, or Windows phone)? Remember, the Zune no longer exists. I want to jog/exercise without wearing my phone in an armband on my bicep.
or
2) If I subscribe to the Music Pass, can I use Windows Media Player to synchronize "subscribed/DRM'ed songs" to a MP3 player? I understand the difference between "purchased" and "subscribed" and DRM and non-DRM. I figure there's a time-limited license that could be uploaded to the MP3, or something.
Look, I don't want to jog with this big WP8 phone attached to my arm. Nor do I want to put it in a fanny pack. That's just gross.

2013-11-14T06:30:29+00:00 This is so stupid. WP phones are great but no one wants to use them as music players at a gym. They are too big, get too hot, and the battery life isn't great. Way to screw this one up too Microsoft. The Zune was the one good thing they had going. There years later the apps on Windows devices still suck. I tried to be loyal and saw potential but I'm probably moving to Android. I was completely screwed over on my Zune account.

2013-11-14T20:59:41+00:00 A lot of people are purchasing a Nokia Lumia 520/521 and using it as a media device (like a Zune HD). They can be purchased for $100 or less in the US without a contract. You'll have access to your music and games on it. If you don't want to go that route, there are iOS and Android apps for Xbox Music now as well.

It sounds like you have never used a Windows Phone.
Their size is normal for a smartphone these days. I don't like the huge phones, but most people do.
The only time my phone heats up is a graphically intensive game or a phone call in a poor signal area - this is like all phones.
My Lumia 920 is a year old and lasts two days, more if I turn off the 3G signal.
But I'm talking about a phone here. Yes, it's no dedicated PMP. The Lumia 520/521 with no SIM will last for days and is small though.
It's funny you threaten to go to Android, where the phones are bigger, the performance is poorer, and the battery life is worse than equivalent Windows Phones. But hey, Xbox Music is available on Android now!
That's the problem with bumping old threads: outdated info.

2013-11-15T03:11:06+00:00 I have a Lumia 920.
If I use this as a mp3 player the 4G/wifi has to be on to stream the music on the stupid pass so the battery life is still poor.
I don't want to buy another phone to pretend it's an MP3 player. Xbox music is available on competing operating systems which are compatible with mp3 players.
The music purchased on the Zune accounts stopped working on WP8. It worked a couple of weeks ago.
The phone does get hot when playing/switching songs because of the display. Yes all phones do this, hence the objection to getting rid of the Zune hardware support.
I never complained about phone size. I like larger phones. I don't like being forced to use it as my only option for an MP3 player with a paid service.
Switching to Android will at least mean I get the good apps.
