WMI Provider Host constantly disrupting performance of my CPU, especially when music is playing.

Hello,

The WMI Provider Host always flares up to about 30% of CPU usage after about 10 minutes on. When it does, if I'm playing any music it slows the computer down so the music becomes jerky and distorted and the computer runs slowly. I don't have any 3rd party virus programs, and haven't installed many programs, so don't understand why it does this.

I have a Windows 8 Desktop machine and mostly use it for internet and playing music, so this is particularly annoying when it happens.

I am not technically minded, so does anyone have a simple solution for a technophobe?!

Hi,

It appears that you have an issue with High CPU usage at idle. However, in order to guide you in the right direction; I will need some more information. Please help me by answering the question mentioned below.

Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

In-order to fix the High CPU usage issue, refer the following methods.

Method 1:

Check if you can experience the issue in ‘Safe mode with networking’; if safe mode with networking works fine then set the computer to ‘Clean boot’ state to check for software conflicts.

Step 1:

Windows Start-up Settings (including safe mode).

Keep the computer in clean boot and check the issue status.

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Method 2:

I would also suggest you to run “System Maintenance” to diagnose and fix the issue. It finds and cleans up unused files and shortcuts, and performs maintenance tasks.

Follow these steps:

a. Press “Windows key + W” from keyboard.

b. Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the search box and hit enter

c. From “Troubleshooting” windows click “View all” option from the left panel.

d. In the list of options, click on “System maintenance”.

e. Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Thank you! I did big revision of my soft and deleted lots programs. So, now this process take from 1 to 5%% of CPU. But I still don't understand this process - every time it is living by itself )) - jumping from 0 to 5-6%% of CPU and going back to 0. It looks like some circular process...

Oleksii, it will most likely be due to a pre-installed app on your machine, or something you installed later. This fault seems to be always with a particular piece of buggy add on software; not windows itself. If none of the above has worked for you, try disable ALL the startup programs as per what PeterPul said:

"You can disable the [any startup process] on start up by turning it off on the "Startup"-tab within your Task Manager."

Except you are not looking for GoPro, you are looking for any software that runs on startup. This DISABLES that software from runtime when the computer boots, so if it is a printer manager for instance you are disabling, your connection to the printer wont work until you reenable it. However if you disable anything here, you must REBOOT and give your PC a few minutes to load and settle before you will see any change, if at all. If it is fixed your WMI error, you will have to reenable your start processes again, one at a time only and reboot after each to find which one is causing your issue. If you identify a startup process that is buggy, see if there is an update for that software, uninstall if not required, or just leave the startup component disabled if you don't need it to run at startup.

If the above achieves nothing, don't forget to reenble your startup processes ;)

I have the same problem, but I cannot find a 'Search conduit' on my PC

My OS - Win 8.1

My PC is a Lenovo B550

I did run System Maintenance but found nothing wrong.

I could not find a "Search Conduit" or "Conduit Search"

Malwarebytes program didn't help.

Method 1 - I couldn't do it because of bad links here. I am simple didn't fine examples of doing it ))

Method 2 - I did it. No success ((

I have paid verison of AVAST Internet Security. Have checked them all my compyter - no success ((

Deleted Chrome with all extension - didn't help ((

Tried to find any mention of "Conduit" with or without any other words everywhere at my PC - didn't find anything ((

I couldn't find "Search...Conduit..." or anything like it in my Processes ((

Big problem - I am not ready went into System Restore ((

I can't find any evidence of malware or malicious content on my computer and this has been going on for quite some time.

I don't have Scorpion Saver ))

I don't have Relevant Knowledge ))

I don't have GoPro Studio ))

I read all pages before )) - no solution for me ((

HELP ME! :)

Any solutions would be awesome.

Maybe this is just a bug in Windows 8?

Bah!!! I am having this issue, and installed GoPro Studio 2.5.1 (I think it is .1) a fortnight ago! Duh! What do you mean by "removed from startup?" Have you uninstalled GoPro Studio?

Had the same problem and indeed, turning off GoPro on start up solved the issue.

You can disable the Go Pro on start up by turning it off on the "Startup"-tab within your Task Manager.
