Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Just wonder, how does the font rendering look like on the Microsoft's Surface Pro?

FWIW in my case, the problem has never been on the Tablet side, only on the attached monitor side.

Have you tried using a Zoom or scaling change to help change the symptom?  FWIW I am still using 112% in my IE tabs.  And I think I am using some of the Change only the text size options in the Display dialog but don't know how to find out for sure.

Related to this, does anyone know why MS stopped allowing us to use Intel's HD Graphics tool?  I keep imagining that there are useful tweaks in it but now can not test that recollection.

The sad truth seems to be (and just look at how Windows 10 is shaping up), 48 pages into this thread,

You can see this, Dr Geek can see this, Tzon can, even I can see this.

Obviously everyone who works at Microsoft has super special magic eyes. Or perhaps they have hardware designed to look at its best with Metro rendering, so they just don't get it.

Truly it is a shame these Microsoft people never learned to read, despite the super high definition displays they can gaze at. Because perhaps all the 48 pages of contributors to to this thread, and those to many other threads here and many, many forum posts elsewhere, really are onto something.

I wonder why Apple have just declared the biggest returns in corporate history? Perhaps they listen to their customers. That is why their products just work. I have never noticed a bad display on any Apple product. Sometimes they are breathtaking.

Sadly, Microsoft's response to this plainly very widespread issue is breathtaking too, but not in a nice way.

Dear Microsoft, please can you just give us, your customers, the option to use Cleartype rendering in IE11 and Office 2013, and Metro and Moderns apps, and Windows 10 and Office 2016. It may not be as good as you want it to be, but a lot of us in the real world like it because it really, truly looks better on our PC's.

I think tey will never fix it :(

Now, in 2015, and with Windows 10, it is still the same.

Some say, it is becasuse conventional cleartype (color mixed font antialiasing) cannot be used on rotated displays, like tablets, etc...

But, I do not have a tablet!

On the other hand, I had an android tablet, with 10" display, 1024x768 resolution, the fonts were antialiased, and it never looked so blurry.

This blurry, unreadable text is literally hurting my eyes.

Maybe on higher resoltion displays (for example 15", 4K display notebooks) it is ok, it is not visible, but I have a 23" LCD display, and I think most of us are using similar displays.

• I came to a conclusion that Microsoft won't fix it. Especially the last sentence - And in future scenarios, screens will have sufficiently high resolution that gray-scale anti-aliasing should suffice.

So far, I think that gray-scale rendering is just faster (that's why they force it - so it can be super fast on a mobile phone), and on high resolution display (mobile phone, 4K monitor) you won't notice it. I can notice it on 23" full HD monitor, but my colleague says it looks all right to him.

I reckon this might be a thing which will prevent people upgrading from windows xp/7 to Windows 10 as those systems look good on full HD monitor. Microsoft should really realize that ordinary cheap PC is not having ultra HD resolutions.
