Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    Can confirm, W10 still has the font issues. Can someone start a thread in the W10 and we can see if we can get it to the top?

    You've made me feel so much better. I thought it was just me banging on about this for years. The last pin point sharp operating system I've used is XP. That's the main reason why I still use it. Fonts are still blurrry on Windows 10 technical Preview but not as bad as Windows 8. This text is blurry as I type this on Windows 10. This blurry text all started in Windows 7.  The 'Add to Favourites' box in Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 9/10 is sharp like in XP. The 'Windows Security Alert' box in Windows 10 is also sharp like in XP. If some of Windows 10 can appear pin point sharp then I can't understand why all of it can't be pin point sharp, and as I've said before, like in XP.

    Early last year I purchased a laptop with win 8 installed, and it had this poor looking font issue, though due to the smaller screen it wasn't that bad after a scaling adjustment.

    Anyway, 18 months on, I needed a new decent desktop PC. So I went and spent almost $3K on a new PC. The retailer gave me an option of Win 7 or Win 8.1.

    Thinking they SURELY would have fixed the issue in the 18 months since I purchased the laptop, I went with windows 8.1.

    Got the system home, turned it on....and OH  NO, terrible looking desktop font, and even worse on a 23in display. And adjusting the scaling like I did with the laptop barely improved matters.

    What the heck...I now have an awesome system, but with terrible looking desktop.  

    Furious! And regretting my decision not to go the Windows 7 option.

    How can they not fix such an important issue???

    It is odd how it affect different users in different ways.

    My desktop looks fine, but my IE 11 web pages and Office 2013 documents, spreadsheets and Outlook emails look dreadfully blurry.

    Check which version of Windows 8 or 8.1 you have.

    If you have Windows Pro version, you may be able to downgrade to Windows 7.

    Please note that if your main problem with blurry text is in Office 2013, you need to downgrade to Office 2010, which looks fine on Windows 8.1.
