Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

I just checked it after reading your post and it seems that "retina" displays with a lower power consumption are being developed by different brands. I'm glad to know it because that's a potential future solution to this issue we have.

In fact, after understanding that not only Microsoft but also developers and web designers are using non web-safe fonts more and more which goes with forcing anti-aliasing on users, I don't think there will any long-lasting all-in-one software solution but that there will be a hardware solution that is these new IGZO or LTPS screens.

I hadn't noticed poor font rendering at all within the time that I used Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 preview. Although I have messed with someone else's laptop for a few minutes, I ran Windows 8 on my 2010 machine for a few months until I deleted it (the product key didn't work). I also tested the Windows 8.1 preview in a Virtualbox machine; while there were other bugs with it (and additionally Internet Explorer 11 bugs that are not present on IE11 for Windows 7) I don't recall blurry text.

But, I don't really use that much software, and I don't visit many webpages, so I'm not sure I would have noticed it if it was a problem for me.

I would like to add a second observation after creating this post -- the first was that blurriness  increases and decreases by viewing the monitor from a different angle, higher or lower.

Look at the image bellow (download and view at 100%). With the same single-color rendering, same letters appear better or worse at different parts of the monitor. See how the letter "h" and the Greek letter "τ" appear periodically well rendered when typed on a Facebook chat window. Why can't they appear correctly all the time?

This could give a hint to the software engineers on what's going wrong with this rendering method and finally give us an option to calibrate the rendering engine for our monitors.

So, Microsoft engineers now understand that some people in the USA speak Spanish. Woohoo!

Guess they will eventually wake up and realise that 75% of their customers don't live in the USA and shock-horror, speak other languages. 

If that sort of parochial narrow-mindedness is the norm at Microsoft, then this font rendering problem will never get fixed.
