Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

I 've gathered links bellow that refer to the same problem to highlight its importance and display the number of users that are affected:

Well, two days in with 8.1 Pro, I have tweaked all I can tweak, and installed the latest beta from Nvidia and side by side IE11 is blurry and Chrome is not (Dell Latitude E6410 1440x900).

It all looks ok on my Surface RT of course.

I'm seeing blurry text in Win 8.1. Oddly, it only seems to happen in Firefox, and only on certain parts of the page. For instance, if I am looking at text at or below the middle of the screen, it looks nice and crisp. However, if I then scroll the page so the "clear" text is now at the top of the screen it starts to become fuzzy - and then never recovers if I scroll it back. I'm using IE11, and on my.msn.com, my fonts are quite crisp. I use a very small font size, and have most of my life. On Firefox, which used to work just as well as IE10 on Windows 8 on my machine, it now looks like ****... I've tried adjusting Clear Type several different times, all with no success.

silverfox1948, this is a Firefox bug. To fix it, set in about:config the gfx.content.azure.enabled pref to false.

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 yesterday and the problem got MUCH WORSE! I didn't even notice the blurry font until 8.1 and now it's almost unbearably awful. I have a 2-month-old Toshiba Satellite laptop, touchscreen. I'm going to try reinstalling display drivers, see if it makes any difference. When I upgraded to Windows 8.1 last night, the touchscreen stopped working (!) and I had to reinstall the touchscreen drivers.

I'm a professional Microsoft developer, and I'm so pissed off at them right now.

On my PC I was able to fix Firefox font rendering by disabling hardware acceleration under

    Options>options>Advanced>General in Firefox.
