Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

I 've gathered links bellow that refer to the same problem to highlight its importance and display the number of users that are affected:

I don't know if this helps anyone or is applicable to Windows 8, but I have Win 7 running at 2560 x 1600 on a 30" display and found both IE and Chrome to be terribly blurry.

I am set for 150% scaling (understandably necessary for that resolution) which tells me that's 9pt Segoe UI at 144dpi- the recommended max.

I found a post which recommended ticking the "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling" under display settings, set custom text size. Selecting this has made a big difference with text very visibly clearer.

I just tried Windows 8.1 and the stupid anti-aliasing is now affecting parts of the desktop which I hadn't noticed before, if I'm not mistaken about it. It's still OK inside programs except titles of windows.

EDIT: after shutting down and starting Windows 8.1 again, it seems back to the desktop without anti-aliasing as it was in Windows 8.0, for the most part at least.

I'm going to restore my system to Windows 8 with a Ghost backup and hope it'll be OK.

I can't recommend upgrading to Windows 8.1 to anyone liking the desktop as it is because it will be changed with Windows 8.1.

Microsoft didn't get it, at all!

I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and i don't have this problem on desktop but this problem of font rendering remains  with IE11 although it's an awesome browser and in the mail app too.

I'm really mad because it's impossible Microsoft couldn't be aware of that major issue. This is the only reason i don't use IE, this blurry text ruins my experience, i come back on firefox where the font rendering is good. Don't get me wrong i don't use it not because i don't want but because MS made it unusable for me.

    8.1 No Fix

The poor Font readability is worse in Office 2013.  Office 2013 is now impossible to use. It's a pile of junk.  The text reminds of text fro 1997.  Get real Microsoft.

    Indeed.

I had this problem just after installing Windows 8.1.

Now that I have shut down and started Windows 8.1 again, it seems that at least some of it has disappeared.
