Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    This is the reason I'm sticking with Office 2010.

    I would like to take advantage of the new features of Office 2013 but I'm not prepared to put up with such poor font rendering - its simply unusable on a standard low-dpi display

    I don't understand why they won't issue a fix or at least offer an option to use the old rendering techniques? Especially since this topic is the highest rated unanswered question with the most "me too" votes. Just googling the problem you can see there are so many people having this issue. How can this still be an ongoing if it's been complained about since the Windows 8 beta started? I just don't get how it's still not fixed.

    Has they even acknowledged the problem?

    This issue has a long history, starting at least with Windows 7 (I'm not sure about Vista). Which tells me that there is simply no hope for a solution, except maybe for high-resolution displays.

    However I recently read a review of a first Windows laptop with a "retina-like" display, and the reviewer complained that he needs a magnifying glass to see anything when using some of the programs - they simply don't scale correctly.

    By the way, the "retina" display on my iPad is unparalleled, except for the glare effect. Apparently everyone already forgot when they were using "anti-glare" filters on their CRT monitors.

    I do not believe Microsoft have ever acknowledged the problem. They cannot be unaware of it: about 7,040,000 results today (with G****e) for "Blurry text in windows 8" .

    The only reasonable conclusion is that they simply do not care.

    How nice to have such a monopoly. 

    But the world is changing. PC sales are tumbling as tablet sales go up. And much as I love the Surface, the excitement is on my boys' Nexus 7's, while Apple have managed to maintain their cachet by not making a mess of new products and software revisions.

    It must be time for those lucky enough to own them to sell their Microsoft shares. "One Microsoft", going down the plughole (sadly)?

    PS, I just discovered that Bing is so much better than Google:  26,200,000 results for "Blurry text in windows 8" today with Bing.

    Well done Microsoft!

    And, wow: about 31,200 results on G for "Blurry text in "windows 8.1"" (only 21,500 this time with Bing).

    Really beginning to make an impact with the beta update guys! Again, well done Microsoft!
