Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    How does chrome/firefox look if you spin a lower ppi screen vertically ? There must be a reason why they did this...

    Why would I do that? Most of desktop monitors cannot be spinned. And Windows 8 is not made for tablets only, it's also made for desktops and notebooks.

    Text in IE10 is unreadable on standard low PPI desktop monitors and notebooks. It hurts my eyes. Cleartype is perfect for any low PPI displays except tablets, why isn't there an option to use it?

    The problem is not limited to standard low PPI desktop monitors.

    I recently updated to a 27 inch 2560x1440 monitor and the font rendering in Windows 8 is still terrible.

    In Windows 7 however, everything looks brilliant.

    Hi,

    i'm from Germany, and I use Window 7 with IE10 on a Samsung Notebook with 1366x768.

    I wondered that the trick with that two DLL's in the IE program folder does not work anymore.

    For 28 years, I use computers, and I passed every eye test perfectly.

    2 month of using IE10, and I need eyeglasses. I think MS has secret agreements with eyeglasses manufacturers.

    @Microsoft: What ist the problem of making a possibility to choose?

    A first step, as it might look like:

    Sascha - your suggestion is both funny and compelling.

    Microsoft's response to this is not funny.

    A sixth page on this topic (let alone all the others) and no reply at all from Microsoft.

    Not fun.

    I reported on my issue earlier in the thread. Quick update but I don't know if it will be helpful to everyone...

    As mentioned before I have an NVidia card. I went back to the NVidia Control Panel -> global settings and decided to simply "Restore" to default settings.

    The issue isn't gone, but it is enough improved that I can again read fonts on store apps and IE10. Previously the store (and store apps) were so bad it was completely unusable.

    I'll try to poke and see if I can narrow it down to a specific setting when I have time.
