Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

I 've gathered links bellow that refer to the same problem to highlight its importance and display the number of users that are affected:

Joshua, you say, "A certain percentage of people are affected."  Is this percentage not 100%?  All Windows 8 computers I have seen render fonts nicely in "desktop" applications (presumably with ClearType), but the fonts of the "metro" applications look terrible.  As far as I can tell, Internet Explorer's HTML renderer uses the same font rendering system as "metro" applications, so it looks bad too.  I think all users are affected by this, but only some users (e.g., those in this thread) can notice and appreciate the smooth look of ClearType fonts versus the uneven look of "metro" applications fonts.  Please tell me if I am wrong here.  Thanks.

What will it take for you to *listen*. The problem happens with 100% of video cards, 100% of video drivers, etc. A certain percentage of people are affected. The only fix is to honor the system setting for font rendering. Use ClearType if the system is set that way. Use anti-aliasing if the system is set that way. Use bi-level rendering if the system is set that way.

    Hi,

I can certainly understand your concern and would like to know the model number of the ACER computer. I would also like to inform you that this is an issue with the display card driver.

However, you can also try suggestions provided by****Praseetha K Nair replied on January 29, 2014. The Microsoft Link is mentioned below:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8\_1-windows\_install/windows-81-and-blurry-text/c45266e5-4fa9-46ab-bbb4-43725b25c629

Please let us know if it worked.

It is *NOT* a problem of the display card driver.

It is only a problem that we cannot disable font smoothing in IE!

Windows Explorer, Notepad, texts in window decorations and menus is crisp and sharp when font smoothing is turned off but IE has no such option.

It is so annoying that Microsoft refuses to change this behaviour and tries to blame display drivers!

I just upgraded from Vista on an Acer 15inch to 8.1 on and Acer 17inch. I am getting some font clean and clear and other stuff blurry. What I am tying now for instance is blurry. It's very annoying. I didn't notice anything like this on the old computer.

It does seem to be better if I use Chrome as the search engine.

But I also notice that the text on the desktop is not great.

I have used Clear type and it doesn't seem to have helped.

Looking at the forum there seems to be a lot of people experiencing the same proplem, if there is a patch please update the relevant software.

    Thanks

    Martin.
