Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    I am dual-booting Windows 7 and Windows 8 on the same PC.

    You can use any version of Internet Explorer on Windows 7 and the text will be clear.

    I am running IE 10 on Windows 7 with no blurriness at all.

    It is only a problem in Windows 8.

    The only program I could get not get clear text in on Windows 7 was MS Office 2013.

    It was almost as bad running on Windows 7 as it was on Windows 8.

    So I reverted back to Office 2010.

    FWIW, I've been using computers since 1972, and I make my living programming.  

    Windows 7 + IE 8 will solve it.

    I am not a computer expert by any means, though I have used them since 1988.  I just purchased a new computer from Dell and I am profoundly unsatisfied with it due due a significant decrease in font clarity.  The computer came with Win 8 and IE10.  If I were to somehow return to using Win 7, would that solve the problem you have described?  Appreciatively, Chasanne

    I will not use any app (IE 10, office 2013, other 3rd party) with this rendering.

    MS-cleartype was a clear 3rd place compared to linux and OSX on font rendering.

    Now, MS retired cleartype and the successor is even worse. Widening the gap when you were the worst is a braindead move.

    Thank you Jacob.

    Many of us do understand this.

    It is just sad that Microsoft:

    • have forced this awful blurry greyscale antialiasing upon users
    • have kept their support staff in the dark about the issue
    • refuse to acknowledge the issue exists
    • have given us all the impression they couldn't care less about the user's eyesight

    My guess is nothing will be done about it until the lawsuits for damaged eyesight start rolling in.
