Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    Avoid using Office 2013?? 

    What alternative is there for word processing? (And why did I just pay $140AU for fuzzy text?)

    I have a brand new toshiba satellite and have the same problem.  The issue mainly arises in Word & Excel (for Office 2013).  Chrome is not too bad, although I would have expected it to be better.

    I followed the instructions to troubleshoot 'power' and was told the display was too bright and is now 'fixed', but this made no difference to the blurry text.  I tried disabling Hardware Graphics Acceleration (as suggested by one blog).  This also made no difference.

    I tried chatting live with a real human being at microsoft and was told to contact toshiba as it was a problem with my drivers.  How can that be true when I bought the pc last week and everyone online is telling me that hundreds of people have this problem, regardless of their hardware, their drivers, their graphics card or whether their windows 8 was an upgrade or came with a new pc?  One blog said I should 'revert' to windows 7.  Can I do that if the pc came with windows 8?

    Good work. Was this issue even covered by all the major tech websites such Engadget or The Verge? It seems that this issue has to get more publicity for Microsoft to do anything. I'll send out emails to the tech sites and I suggest people do the same. Thanks.

    For everyone interested, I noticed that the Windows Facebook page frequently gets replies from the admins. I sent the page a message with a link to this thread and asked them if they were going to help us out, and I got this reply:

    "Thanks for sharing. Yes, our teams are tracking this issue."

    They could be bullshiting me just to appease us but it's better than nothing.

    Google "blurry text windows 8" today and you get about 4,100,000 results

     

    Redmond you have made such a mess of this.

    But I just noticed with Bing you only get 584,000 results. Must be a Google plot then and nothing to worry about. Or perhaps I could not read the figures clearly in IE10.
