Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    After playing around with Windows 8.1 more and comparing it to 7, the issue still exists and 7 makes 8.1 look like Sh*t. Sorry Microsoft, but I'm done with this OS. I'll be back for Windows 9.

    I've had this problem since Windows 8 beta and I figured the 8.1 preview would finally fix this issue! I was wrong. Still looks awful, even with the nvidia 8.1 beta drivers, tweaking cleartype, etc - it all looks horrible. I can't believe this is still not fixed, it's literally awful, especially in IE 10/11.

    I agree the inferior gray-scale font rendering that IE11, other bits of Windows 8 and Office 2013 force upon the hapless user is eye-sight damaging.

    I suspect lawyers won't get involved until some large organization rolls out Windows 8 and then gets hit by multiple workers compensation claims from employees with damaged eyesight. Then the organization's workers comp insurer will sue Microsoft.

    Trouble is, a huge number of organizations have just upgraded from 10 year old Windows XP corporate desktops to Windows 7.

    Most of them will not budget for another upgrade for at least 3 years. Some will even think they can make Windows 7 last 10 years like XP did.

    So, we might not see any improvement until:

    a) Windows 9 arrives or

    b) Cheap Ultra HD 3840x2160 monitors become available.

    Windows ClearType (or whatever is the proper technical name for this thing) has been causing harm to people's eyesight. At least in my case.

    I wonder why the lawyers aren't all over it yet.

    I'm on 8.1 Preview right now, graphics drivers installed.

    Don't get me wrong, the fonts look fine, it's the rendering that I don't like. Previously Microsoft went with fonts optimized for on-screen reading, especially at small sizes and on <100 PPI screens. The text is very crisp and easy on the eyes and this is the main reason I prefer Windows over OS X or Linux for my everyday work. Now I'm a bit disappointed seeing that feature on the way out of future Windows versions.
