Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    Thank you Tzon for asking this question. Microsoft really needs to do something about this. As a PC user of Windows 8, I have a 24in LCD with a resolution of 1920x1080, which translates to 92 ppi (pixels per inch)! Without ClearType, the font looks horrible! All desktop applications (EXCEPT Office 2013 and Internet Explorer 10 and 11) look good. All Windows Store applications look bad. I understand that Microsoft is trying to focus on tablet and phone users with higher PPI screens, but what are they doing about the millions of PC users?

    Here is a screenshot of the status window of TuneUp Utilities 2014, on the desktop (it's strictly a desktop app). This is from a 8.1 installation, and has always looked fine, even on 8.

    Here is what it looks like, on another 8.1 installation. I've seen this kind of ridiculous 8.1 blurriness on system prompts, too. The Device Manager, for example. Some times it goes away. I use 125% DPI and "one scaling level for all displays". Maybe Microsoft is losing control of this... or are they preparing us for total Windows 9 Desktop Blurriness © ?

    Indeed.

    I had this problem just after installing Windows 8.1.

    Now that I have shut down and started Windows 8.1 again, it seems that at least some of it has disappeared.

    8.1 No Fix

    The poor Font readability is worse in Office 2013.  Office 2013 is now impossible to use. It's a pile of junk.  The text reminds of text fro 1997.  Get real Microsoft.
