Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

I'm sorry, this is not the solution. DPI is supposed to stay at 100% , unless someone whishes to have larger text and icons due to eyesight problems or other reasons. As mentioned previously, everything is crystal clear on Windows 8 with DPI @ 100% (on a 1920x1080 22 inch monitor) except Internet Explorer 10 and Office 2013! Chrome works fine with the same Windows' settings and the same text size, if compared with IE side by side.

If you don't download them and zoom them at 100% (actual size) you won't be able to notice the problem.

I figured out the problem. With the screen resolution so big and having it at the default DPI (which is meant for 15 inch screens with low resolutions) its basically at a magnification. Just to be clear, since my resolution is at 1920 x 1200 and I set it at 100% DPI the computer is going to group an image in small amounts of pixels to form the picture requested where if I was at 150% DPI it would grab on to more pixels to form that same picture. Say you had a resolution of 800 x 600, this would give you 480,000 pixels on ur screen while at 1920 x 1200 there are 2,304,000 pixels to grab onto

My finding is it has been a long time since ClearType in Vista beta. At that time The font smoothing in beta was so scaring. Lucky Microsoft can fixed it in final with also IE 7. IE 8 beta also has the same problem. Once again Microsoft fixed in final. But that did not happen with IE 9. IE 9 grey font rendering is so bad that I can stand it. I am a power user old guy. In the old time PC was expensive. That's way many trick to speed up Windows is useful. Like don't use wallpaper, etc kind. One trick that effected in this problem is "use best performance" especially the "disable font smoothing". I have been using Windows 8 Pro X64 RTM for a few months with "best performance". I use Opera, Chrome, Maxthon, Firefox just fine with text rendering. Other program that use MSHTML or IE Engine like Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger is blur text.

I use from Athlon II X4 640 to I5 3470 with HDMI Geforce GTX 460 on Samsung BX2250 and latest driver 3.14 etc.

If you want more dramatic effect event try launch "Adjust Clear Type Text". Randomly check and uncheck the "enable clear type" a few times. And your windows font will be horrible event if you close that apps.

I just built a new PC with Windows 8 and was surprised to find some of my fonts blurry. I read most of the discussion but thought I would add some of my detail that I didn't come across.

First up I am using all new generation everything.. this is a top end custom PC with NVidia GTX 670 and Win 8 Pro installed. I run 3 screens with my primary being a 24" Dell, followed by a 20" Dell, and a third Dell on the end.  All screens running at native resolution.  All drivers current and I've even tried backing out the NVidia driver to 307 that came with the card.

I've tried enabling and disabling just about all video settings with no improvement. I've done the calibration for Clear Type.

All non-metro apps are running fine in general, however IE10 definitely shows the font issue.

The primary example demonstrating the issue on my machine is the Microsoft Store.

To clarify this issue I should mention I have run all beta versions of Windows 8 on my old PC with no issues and I have a SurfaceRT so I am very familiar with what the Store should look like.

The Store screen, when first launched,  has category text above each grid group. If there are updates it shows how many are waiting in the upper right corner. My PC is not showing the category text or the update text at all. I know it is there and can click on it... but no, it's not visible.

When I do go into a category and get the larger grid with more icons and smaller text the text is so blurry as to be almost non-legible. The interesting part is that moving my mouse over text will clarify it, at least temporarily. This works on both the Store launch screen and inside category for blurry text. Moving over one bit of text will clarify it but will also cause previously clear text to turn blurry. Hovering over category words and the update text area does not work to make it appear. This same issue is prevalent on all 3 screens.

I don't use metro apps much so have not tested this extensively with others. However, every one I have tested it having this issue. This issue essentially means I don't want to use metro apps and can't recommend Win 8 to friends/family until this gets fixed. If I find a fix that is not already posted I'll update.
