Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    This issue varies from one monitor to another. For example, text appears better in my laptop than in my desktop (still not great). I also noted that fonts seem to get better if you change the viewing angle of your monitor (read my older posts). So actually it is some sort of calibration problem. Maybe for some users changing the monitor settings fixes it. But of course, Microsoft should provide a more universal solution.

    Totally understandable, just wanted to share what did the trick in my situation. Font in FF/Chrome/OtherApps was great but in IE/Start screen it was very ugly. Doing what I posted fixed my issue hopefully it might help someone else.

    I think you're missing the point mate. The OP issue is nothing to do with monitor settings or any other specific hardware problem. It's something inherent in Windows 8 that needs to be fixed by Microsoft.

    Ok so I fixed it on my PC. Both IE text and Start Screen text was greatly improved. Oddly enough it had nothing to do with OS Settings. Go to your monitor settings, reset everything and try calibrating with this guide http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ .

    Before anyone complains please remember, this helped in my particular situation it may or may not work for you. But it's worth trying. After some tuning (which with the guide really isn't that hard) everything looks much better. The font problem was also fixed.

    If I had the chance to speak to a Microsoft representative I would refer to this forum asking him why isn't there an official reply/acknowledgement of the No1* in the world problem of Windows 8! I would also ask to speak to a higher ranking official (not just a random tech guy) until I got the answer for the problem - whether they don't know about it or they are working on it planning to release a fix. Unfortunately, it is difficult for me to contact Microsoft US from Greece...
