Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

We, the customers, demand the option to use RGB sub-pixel anti-aliasing in IE10 and Office 2013 on Windows 8.

 

I'll second that, but the close to complete lack of competition in this space is why MS tries to get away with this sort of BS. 

Might be a good way for MS to force more people to buy macs, unfortunately our business is stuck with PCs, so will be sticking with Win7 and Office 2010 until this is resolved.

Pity for MS - we were going to put the whole business on O365 in the cloud which would have been revenue generating, but instead I've recommended we all stay on existing licences, so no additional revenue for you!

Maybe the fonts appear "less crisp" to you, but to most of the rest of us here, those fonts are so blurry you get headache after 10 minutes. That makes the user interface UNUSABLE!

Many of us here are fully aware of Microsoft's reasons for doing this (they have been stated before), but that does not make those reasons valid.

Microsoft's corporate thinking on this matter is seriously and fundamentally deficient.

There is simply no excuse whatsoever for inflicting blurry text on customers who work in front of desktop monitors all day.  Some posters here also have serious problems with blurry text on laptops with relatively high pixel densities. 

It really beggars belief that Microsoft saw fit to do this. The whole issue smacks of internal corporate politics being played by an arrogant senior management that is seriously out of touch with customers.

I've noticed a lot of BS solutions on this thread. None of the supposed solutions work for IE 10 or anything in Windows 8. I've had this new computer on HDMI output for two months now and the fonts still look like ****. This is an issue Microsoft needs to address, not some dumb techie out there looking for solution points.

This DOES NOT work for me. I tried VGA and HDMI as my Laptop and monitor do not have DVI.

In any case there should be no difference between HDMI and DVI . Both are digital and I believe HDMI just carries an extra line for audio, but that's it.

In any case, most laptops only have HDMI, so there's little hope for the thousands (millions?) of people hooking up laptops to external displays.

I found a solution that seems to be working at least for me. When I bought my new computer with Windows 8 in March it had a HDMI port to which I connected a HDMI cable to my monitor. I had used a DVI cable with my previous Windows 7 computer as it had no HDMI port. My old computer had crashed but I am using the same monitor. I thought HDMI was more advanced than DVI.

Today I tried hooking up my monitor with my old DVI cable and the fonts are now crystal clear. I am not an expert on this but perhaps HDMI is geared more toward videos and not text.
