Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    I too am absolutely baffled about this. I would buy office 2013 if they fixed this issue. But until they do, it's simply unusable. The incredibly strange thing is that Microsoft clearly put a huge amount of time and effort into making office 2013 look better with fancy animations, etc. And yet the one thing that actually needs to look good - the text - looks dramatically worse for the first time EVER in an office upgrade.

    And I can't imagine this is an issue of processor power. I can run office 2010 on my old netbook with great performance. In fact, I can even run office 2010 with an alternative font renderer (mactype) and it STILL performs fantastically well!

    Even if it was some obscure registry setting, or even a crazy series of commands in the command line, I wouldn't care - I'll go to any length to make the text legible again.

    Just give us the OPTION to render using GDI or at least implement RGB sub-pixel rendering using DirectWrite.

    I also sit on a university IT committee, and there's no way I'll be recommending office 2013 until this is ironed out. When you annoy the geeks, you often chase away your biggest customers.

    I agree, Office 2013 is unusable in this state. How can anyone buy it is beyond me. Is there any sort of official acknowledgement/reply on this? Or is Microsoft ignoring user feedback completely?

    I have not seen any official acknowledgment of this serious problem by Microsoft.

    The deafening silence on the issue indicates to me that Microsoft are determined to ignore the issue and ignore their customers.

    For me the problem is Office 2013. I don't have Windows 8 and I used Firefox, but the font is so blurry in Office 2013 that I had to go back to Office 2010. I was really looking forward to using the new features of Offic 2013, but get a headache from the blurry font. Waisted money so far, unless Windows or Office tries to fix this. Why aren't they doing anything?
