Error “Windows\System32\Atibtmon.exe Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library”.

For me, the resolution to this, was to disable a service. I tried several other things before this & nothing worked. Including uninstalling & reinstalling drivers, downloading new ones & updating the C++ library!!

The service i disabled was "AMD external events Utility".

To do this:-  Press the   + R keys. In the box type "msconfig", click ok. 

Click the "services" tab.  Using the mouse tick the box next to "Hide all Microsoft services".

Find "AMD external events Utility"  using the mouse click the box next to it to remove the tick.

Click "Apply" & "Ok" then restart.

This has fixed the issue & there have been no other repercussions from disabling this service. :)

The error is created via ATI display adapter trying to dim screen when on battery power.

A fix using Win10:

-Click the battery icon in the lower right of task bar

-Click Screen Brightness

-Adjust slider to max brightness

On the same screen:

-Click "Change plan settings" by the selected plan

-Under "On battery" adjust brightness to max

-Save changes

Method 2: Download and install “Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)”:

Then restart your computer.

You should see error atibtmon.exe gone!

I have Windows 10 Pro on HP Pavilion PC.

Although I haven't read all the responses on this thread it appears there has to be a compromise in terms of energy saving or a fix has to be downloaded, or the Catalyst app has to be downloaded or a change to a service etc.

In my experience which I have just tried and it has resolved is as follows.  This is based on Windows 10 Pro however it seems to be the same desktop app as previous versions of Windows (down to Vista at least I think).

Open up Power Options from Control Panel (if category view then its System and Security then Power Options).

Firstly click 'Change advanced power settings' button

Scroll to bottom and you should see ATI Graphics Power Settings, press + and you will open up ATI Powerplay Settings, press + and you will be able to change 2 options.  On battery: and Plugged in:

Change both these to 'Maximise Performance' and click 'Apply' at the bottom of the window and then click 'OK' to close the window.

Now you should be able to adjust the brightness slider bar for the 'on battery option'.

Save changes and reboot the computer and this should resolve the problem as it did with me.

I would be keen to know if it has resolved the problem and should it re-occur it is worthwhile noting what updates to either Windows or your laptops manufacturer has happened.

I use already the maximum performance setting on my hp 625, the brightness is at 100% for plugged in and on battery, the error saying that the process atibmon.exe has crashed appears after I unplug the notebook, always. I use windows 10 pro, I am not very sure, I write this from my office. So what I learned: this process is a adobe process, correct me if I'm wrong, it appears on ATI graphic cards, and it have to do with the brightness of the screen, not my case, because I already use the same brightness and the same power options, on plugged or not.
