FSX Acceleration Error Code 1-80004005

b. Browse to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} ****c. Find Upperfilters listed under it, and check its value, if its 0 change it to PartMgr and click OK out.

It worked for me too! Was set to partmgr first, set to "0" then reset to PartMgr then voila! It worked. Ive been trying to get FSX running every night for the last two weeks. Even dual booted window 7 and and still no worky!  Well it worky NOW! Thank you folks!

Thanks for yopur resonse.  1: Yes it worked fine in Vista  2: win 10. I have tried both of your proposed methods a long time ago. NO GO.

Problem: I have FSX on CD with activation code. I have FS Accelleration on CD with code. I install FSX and activate. Fine.

Acceleration is an addon to FSX. I install without any problem at all, but get no chance to activate. Just errorcode. Result is that i only can fly for 30 minutes, like in demomode. In other words I think I need to have a possibility to activate FS Accelleration.

I remember that procedure from Vista. After installation of Accelleration, you got the normal formula on the display to activate with the code.

Thats it. Small problem huge consequense.

Back story... I've been flying FSX for many years now. I started in 08' with a Compaq running Win XP. Upgraded to an HP in 12'. Stock machines at first then upgraded RAM and better GPU's. Never top of the line or over the top machines with the latest hardware that cost more than a small house! My equipment is usually 2-3 years behind the times. My current rig is a Craigslist AMD Custom machine that I paid $150 for. Its a AMD 6300 FX 6 core, NVidia GeForce 1050 TI 4GB GPU, 8GB RAM and Windows 10. It was a crap shoot but the guy demo'd it for me and I've been happy with it. I put the 1050 TI in it as an upgrade. Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P-FX mobo. No overclocking as of yet...

 Now on to the story... Two weeks ago I tried to load FSX in WIN 10. No dice. The first workaround was DTX9. Got that sorted out. It seemed that with every effort to load it was something else. I did manage to get it to load but it would not register. ( gave me the code that everyone else seemed to get. ) I just would try to solve one problem code at a time as it came up. I got frustrated and loaded Windows 7 Home premium on another HDD. Did all the updates, did it all legal. No pirated software... I never even got it to load in Win7. Way more error codes with Windows 7 than 10. Couldn't load, would load all the way to the end of disk 2 and give an error about unable to find certain files needed ect ect. Resurfaced FSX disks. I think I got it to load once but it was the same as 10. Would not register. Tried a new tack: Took the HDD that  I used for FSX alone out of my trusty HP and loaded it up in my new machine just like in the HP. Still had Windows 10 HDD hooked up as well, still doing dual boot. Well that went over like a turd in the punch bowl. Dont know what happened but it somehow corrupted Windows 7. Lost Boot MGR. Reloaded Win 7 again with all updates that took another 5-6 hours to update and get caught up. Tried again and never got it loaded fully. Same as before. Same errors  and a few new ones. Mind you, this was an ongoing,every evening process over the last two and a half weeks. I finally decided to go back to Windows 10 and try again. I already had the file for DTX 9 loaded. Started to research the non register code again and came across the one  that instructed me to change the registry. Followed the instructions about backing up the registry before I started. Did the following: a. Click Start and type regedit in the search bar and pressenter.

b. Browse to the following location: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

c. Find Upperfilters listed under it, and check its value, if its 0 change it to PartMgr and click OK out.

The first time I had no luck. It already had partmgr  in there. Changed to 0 and reset. Went back and changed it back to partmgr (all lower case) and low and behold SUCCESS!!! I was able to register successfully and add Acceleration as well.Which I was also able to activate too. I flew last night with  high resolution settings and most of the sliders cranked up. I still have some tweaking to do like unleashing the power of the Multi Core processor. That is the subject  for another forum though. 

 I guess the moral of the story is: Don't give up. Work each problem as it arises. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my Windows 10 version is not a OEM version loaded by someone at a factory but a stand alone OS with no bloatware.  

 I was getting ready to sacrifice a goat over a copper bowl on a moonlit night in a wooded clearing to get this to work.   Just work the problems as they come up and research every code that you come across and you will find the workaround that works for you.  I hope this helped. 

Thank you for your help. As you can see in my answer to Rick i have tried your solutions without succes. I cant reboot and I get a black display. Managed to get around to a configuration from 4 march 2018. Nothing serious lost. In the future I wil give another try, but not now. I'm sweating and still afraid of a total meltdown. Funny, I have done that many times before. In the start change from 0 to mpartmgr and later to MpartMgr. i dont know what is happening. In my stupidity I tampered with my old PC, in a way I had to buy a new one. Thanks for your good work trying to help me.

I am a longtime user like yourself who encountered the exact same error after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Like you, my FlightSim install went as expected including registration. Acelleration seemed to install normally but never presented the registration popup. After loading the game, I encountered the error code 1-80004005. After researching online, I found the suggestion to change the value of Upperfilters from "0" to "partmgr" for the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. That did not work for me but I again changed that value to "PartMgr" (including upper case letters P and M) because I had heard that case mattered. I made sure that the value was saved as "PartMgr" and not "partmgr" by closing and reopening regedit. I then rebooted my computer (important) and loaded FlightSim. Up popped the Acceleration registration window and FlightSim has functioned properly ever since. Give it another try. Hope it works for you because I remember well how frustrated I felt.

What happened? My bloodpressure rocketed skyhigh when I tried to reboot and the display went black! What the f...? Eventually I had to turn back to win 10 date 4 march 2018. Reboot OK. Full functioning System. Bloodpressure normalized. I, silly idiot, tried once more, just to be sure. NO GO. Same procedure back. So- my FXS planes are still on the ground and I in my chair, sweating. I´m 71 years old and in risk for a heartattack. Therefore I have bought X-plane and fly around in the World with joy and exitement. But I am still interested in getting of the ground in FSX with quite good graphics, and furthermore I have spent a lot of money on addons. Wondering if a dual boot could do the trick.

I had way LESS success with a dual boot Windows 7 than I did with Windows 10. FSX (so far...) has been working perfectly in Windows 10. I never could get it to load in 7. I tried in 10 and nothing worked although it did load with no registration. Tried 7 with dual boot and never got that far. Maybe you will fare better than I did. Look at the bright side- You are getting tons of experience doing this stuff and you will come across the right combo of things and you will find success and a real sense of accomplishment. I know I did as this is something that the Geek Squad at Best Buy or some computer shop wont ever do: They will fix your PC but wont help load a program that gives you fits! At least no one in my town will... Just as well for me as I can't afford what they would have charged just to load windows 7 (twice) and do all the updates. Keep at it and it will happen. An old friend once told me "You won't learn anything about computers until you've crashed one and had to fix it." I dont think you can do irreparable damage by changing the registry for FSX. Just be sure you set a back up in place or a restore point before you do so. Windows 10 makes setting restore points and back up simple. If you "kill" it simply restore it.    Keep us posted and good luck. Who knows...You could become your towns new computer guy after all the experience you'll gain from this!

Thank you again Rick. I agree. For the time being I will do a little flying in-sted of boxing with PCproblems. On a good day I will of course give it another try. I have spent many hours up to now with that bastard.I will let you know when I'm flying FSS. Thanks.

Here it is very important to emphasize that  PartMgr case sensitive !!!

Otherwise it doesn't work.
