Hi,

1.     Has the game ever worked earlier or it is the first time you are trying to play?

2.     Which operating system is installed on the computer?

Method 1:

You may try the steps from the following link and check if it works:

Flight Simulator X: “An error occurred while attempting to activate the product The problem may be due to an incomplete installation of the application”

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960481

Method 2:

b. Browse to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} ****c. Find Upperfilters listed under it, and check its value, if its 0 change it to PartMgr and click OK out.

I had the same problem.  It already had the value set to PartMgr.  I changed it to 0.  tried launching fsx, same issue.  I went back to the value and tried to change it back to PartMgr.  It gave me an error saying something about an empty string but then reset it to PartMgr again.  I restarted fsx and the normal activation window came up and allowed me to finish activation.  I just installed windows 10 the previous day so im assuming it included the anniversary upgrade.

Check your registry entry again and pay special attention to case in the spelling.  Mine was not working as it was originally set to "partmgr".  I changed it to "PartMgr" and as soon as I loaded FSX, it gave me the dialog that asks if I wanted to register now or later.  It worked and I no longer get the annoying error message.

Budley...................... Right on !!!!! I had partmgr as you said and just edited it to PartMgr and that did the trick.......

Changing the case solved my issue as well. The partmgr was already there, I set the case to PartMgr, started FSX and it come up with the activation window for my key. Thanks for the fix.

With all the new responses here kind of made me wonder why MS gave up FS! Bad move MS!
