Cannot install/uninstall Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center!

Hi, i was having trouble with the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center because it didn't identify my Touch Mouse correctly (listed it as HID-compliant device and not by its name like my Sidewinder X4 keyboard). I uninstalled it from Add/Remove Programs and i also uninstalled the drivers for my mouse AND my keyboard (because it showed a Dual Receiver Device in device manager). I rebooted my computer but when i tried to install the drivers again through the Mouse and Keyboard installation process i got an error message telling me that it was already installed. I uninstalled it again ( the "ghost" of it was still listed in Add/Remove programs) and rebooted. When i tried to reinstall it i got again the message that was telling me that it was already installed. This is when the weird stuff began happening. The program was once again listed in Add/Remove programs (this time with its icon and not just a "ghost"). I tried to uninstall it and got a message telling me that the uninstallation process could not procced because some files of the original installation were corrupted or missing. But now the program was listed in the start menu of Windows and when i double clicked it it began an installation process which stopped immediately returning a message that mkc.msi was missing from a temporary file of My Documents and it could not proceed, So now i cannot neither install nor uninstall the damned thing. I tried to roll back my computer but it didn't solve any problems. I suspect that some registry entries weren't deleted properly during the first uninstallation process. I don't want to mess with the registry by myself at least not until i am sure which registry entries are created by and related with the program. Any help would be appreciated.

I need to ask you a few questions in order to assist you in a better way.

 1. Does the issue persist with a particular application?

 2. Were there any changes (hardware or software) made to the computer prior to the issue?

Run the fixit and check.

    Hello spmisik,

    I had the same problem. When installing, it always says that it was already installed and that I have to remove the software first. When trying to remove it says that it can't find the files to remove, etc.

    It took me a while to find a solution. But there is. I installed Mouse and Keyboard center on a different computer. Then copied the regfile in a textfile and named it: "regfile before removing Microsoft and Keyboard Center"  then removed the Mouse and Keyboard center from this computer and copied the regfile again in a textfile and named it: "regfile after removing Microsoft and Keyboard center".

    Then I used a program called windiff to see the differences between these regfiles and deleted all the entries on the computer with the issue.

    This solved the problem and I good install Mouse and Keyboard center again.

    Hi Nico :D, Hi Jessen P, Hi all!

    I have the same problem, which I presumed belonged to Windows 7, but I see that some postings involving Windows 8 have chimed in. Moreover, the "Fix-it" solution offered at the beginning of this thread refers ONLY to a 64-bit system (how ANYONE, much less a Microsoft engineer, can suggest a solution for one-half of the users out there while BLISSFULLY IGNORING the other half is MINDBOGGLING!).

    I will also say that I did NOT go searching for this piece of software, it was SUGGESTED to me by Windows Update - albeit, as an optional piece of software, but no one expects a piece of software SUGGESTED by Windows Update to be THIS MALICIOUS! (It is MALICIOUS when I can't uninstall it effectively, nor reinstall it so that I can at least ask Revo Uninstaller to try and eliminate this piece of NASTINESS!)

    And of course it is an INSULT when Microsoft asks a 1-Lobe only IT engineer to solve the problem and all s/he can offer is a 64-bit solution, knowing SURELY (if not, then Microsoft has worse problems than I credit them for!), that a lot of folk use a 32-bit machine!

    Has anyone with a 32-bit machine used the 64-bit Fix-it with any success?

    No I tried it, I get the damn pop up on my windows 7 32 bit machine everytime I start up windows... And no fix offered yet going through the forums and what not, I just want an OS to work.  Still haven't heard why its so hard to remove and add a windows component to try to fix it... since for 32 bit their software doesn't get the job done.  I spent full price on the retail version and see after all these posts no simple resolution.

    I want my 5 banger PROGRAMABLE INTELITYPE MOUSE BACK. 

    THIS MOUSE IS FOR SALE ON AMAZON FOR $500.00, MY PC REFUSES TO ACCEPT THE CD.

    THIS MOUSE HAS WORKED JUST FINE TILL NOW

    This is so very very hard to believe from such a large company as Microsoft.  I need to reinstall the drivers because the onscreen volume stopped working.  Sure enough, removed it from the Programs and Features and now it is gone - but only from Programs and Features!  I'm back to it still being installed and not being able to reinstall!!  Now I have to go through the whole registry thing and all the other magic.  The remove FixIt Does NOT see MMKC - like for so many others also ran into.

    Microsoft - really - still at this point in time - really!!!!! Make an uninstall program specifically for this stupid, pathetic, hapless, wretched MMKC software!  Read this post from Ray (thanks for the mention Ray): http://raywoodcockslatest.wordpress.com/2014/02/04/uninstall-mmkc/

    **DO you really think your customers should be going though this to remove or reinstall your software!!!!  Really!!!**Come on - do better!!
