Cannot install/uninstall Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center!

Hi, i was having trouble with the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center because it didn't identify my Touch Mouse correctly (listed it as HID-compliant device and not by its name like my Sidewinder X4 keyboard). I uninstalled it from Add/Remove Programs and i also uninstalled the drivers for my mouse AND my keyboard (because it showed a Dual Receiver Device in device manager). I rebooted my computer but when i tried to install the drivers again through the Mouse and Keyboard installation process i got an error message telling me that it was already installed. I uninstalled it again ( the "ghost" of it was still listed in Add/Remove programs) and rebooted. When i tried to reinstall it i got again the message that was telling me that it was already installed. This is when the weird stuff began happening. The program was once again listed in Add/Remove programs (this time with its icon and not just a "ghost"). I tried to uninstall it and got a message telling me that the uninstallation process could not procced because some files of the original installation were corrupted or missing. But now the program was listed in the start menu of Windows and when i double clicked it it began an installation process which stopped immediately returning a message that mkc.msi was missing from a temporary file of My Documents and it could not proceed, So now i cannot neither install nor uninstall the damned thing. I tried to roll back my computer but it didn't solve any problems. I suspect that some registry entries weren't deleted properly during the first uninstallation process. I don't want to mess with the registry by myself at least not until i am sure which registry entries are created by and related with the program. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to know that you face issues with Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center . As I get it right you cannot install/uninstall Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center.

I need to ask you a few questions in order to assist you in a better way.

1. Does the issue persist with a particular application?

2. Were there any changes (hardware or software) made to the computer prior to the issue?

Run the fixit and check.

I have the same problem. I ran the Fix and was able to select Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center. After a reboot, I still can not reinstall. Program is saying it is still installed. I ran the fix again but MMKC is not listed. There is an option to step through a manual remove but I do not know GUID of the program. So I'm stuck. I have no idea why the install program will not uninstall (like many do) or will not allow the install over top of current install (like many do). SO the install program says it is already installed - however it seems to be the only piece of code that can see currently installed version as it is not in Add/Remove; the FixIt doesn't see it either...

I don't know if this is related but I was offered in Win8 last night, "Install Microsoft Keyboard & Mouse experience" It mentioned more ecological use and green speak. Anyway I accepted but immediately after installed the mouse was doing weird things and IE was opening windows behind windows and other crazy stuff. Control Centre. Uninstall. Thought everything OK until this morning a Rectangular box appeared inside the top left hand corner of my display with a sort of performance bar above a '0' and dependent where you selected up this scale, a rapid counter would appear where the '0' was and coiunt down from maximum 99.

I rebooted and all seemed fine until once again the small rectangular box appeared and this time more aggressive. Always on top and not allowing you access to open hidden windows.

Have restarted in safe mode and running Norton 360 for last 40 minutes has returned 45 tracking cookies and nothing more. Norton help now say Microsoft so please help.......................

I have the same problem. Yet, I tried the fix tools but it does not work.

My problem is that during the installation, the internet was lost and I downloaded the software and tried to reinstall it again. It always says this software version is already installed.
