What? My installation is a fresh installation. And no, the original disc it's not a requirement. (tough I do have it and it doesn't ask for it)

Hi guys,
Just tried to create a recovery USB drive. But I find that "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing. To troubleshoot problems when your PC can't start, use your Windows installation disc or media."
Uh?
Is a fresh Windows 8 x64 (RTM) installation. Only thing that I can think of is it has UEFI and Secure Boot enabled.
Ideas?

Like I said earlier, the Recovery Drive can be created on any Windows 8 machine. That being the case, it is not a big deal to be broken on your machine as it would only be used once or twice in its lifetime.

2013-07-21T22:24:58+00:00 Hello-I am having the same problem. However, I am unable to perform Steps 5&6 because my flash drive is not displayed in step5 and Next is greyed out. I get the drive on my computer and I formatted it to NTFS.

2013-08-13T02:18:33+00:00 I am having the same issue and I also just moved from HDD to SSD
Here's the process I used:
Connect both drives and direct clone using Acronis under Windows (not using boot disk)
Change Boot Configuration on motherboard and remove old HDD
Used Windows Installation Disk to do "automatic repair" to fix MBR and a second time for Bootloader
System works perfectly other than being unable to make the recovery drive

2013-10-29T22:28:06+00:00 I had this problem on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. What I found was that I had disabled a startup item that caused me to get the same message as the OP and I could not check the copy recovery partition option either. Here is what I did:
Hold down Control, Alt and Delete at same time.
Select Task Manager
Select Startup Tab
Select RTFTrack and click "Enable"
Restart computer
By doing just this one thing, I was able to create my recovery disk along with copying the recovery partition to a USB drive. I hope this works for others!
