Can't create recovery drive on this PC

when we follow your procedure we reach upto all steps but finally we are not able do that

I Have this issue and after these steps the problem is solved::

Open command prompt in elevated mode and type:

reagentc /disable

reagentc /setreimage /path \?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition1\Recovery\WindowsRE

reagentc /enable

Try to use Recovery Disk Creator again.

Sorry but I don't have WindowsRE. Would this work in WindowsPro 8.1?   Also I don't have recovery partition but I also didn't have one in Windows 7/8 and it worked fine. It only started to fail in Windows 8.1

This works in 8.1 (RE = Recovery Environment), but you need to select the right partition in case Windows isn't installed to the first drive (number 0). Usually it is, though.

I had the same problem as the topic starter with recovery drive creator, for some reason WinRE directory was set to point at wrong partition. You can check it with reagentc /info .

Yesterday I tried to do a recovery drive on my new Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and didn't have the proper size USB drive, so I canceled out.  After freeing up a 16GB USB drive (minimum required) to the backup I started the process over, then noticed "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recover drive" check box was grayed out and receive the following message "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing. To troubleshoot problems when your PC can't start, use your Windows installation disc or media."

I knew that I had blew away the recovery partition, so I tried the following:  reagentc /enable

and now the check box is able to be checked.  

Follow these instructions to make the recovery drive:

Step 1: Connect a USB drive to the computer and backup all data before proceeding to the next step as the drive will be erased during the process.

S tep 2: Switch to desktop mode. Press Windows + R keys to launch Run dialog. In the dialog type control.exe and then press enter key to launch the Control Panel.

Step 3: Click on change View by to Small Icons to view all tools and options. Click on Recovery to launch Recovery window.

Step 4: Next, click on Create a recovery drive option. Click Yes for the User Account Control prompt to launch Create a recovery drive wizard. If you are asked to enter the admin password, please do so.

Step 5: Click Next button, the wizard will scan the computer for all connected USB drives.

Step 6: In the following screen, select the USB drive that you wish to use as recovery drive and then click Next button, and finally click Create button. Windows will transfer required files onto the drive and the recovery drive should be ready.

Are you sure that "Sandeep" is part of Microsoft?  Most of the people who post in this Forum are just normal Windows users, like you and me, and with no connection to Microsoft other than we use their operating system and spend some of our free time trying to help other Windows users, sometimes we are unsuccessful, but at least we tried.

The more official way to contact Microsoft might be via Phone Support.  You can speak to the first phone operator, then the Supervisor if not resolution is forthcoming, and then get any unresolved problem "escalated" up the levels of Support.

Really, Sandeep!  Aren't you people even embarrassed by offering "answers" that do not address the question posed?  This matter of an error message in creating a recovery drive is a very real problem.  Telling us what we already know is more than unhelpful, it's demoralizing. As a 30 years user of Microsoft products, my disappointment in Windows 8.1 - and the support people's cavalier disregard of legitimate queries - is acute.
