App Store: "Your PC isn't connected to the Internet."

My App Store is not working right now. If I open the App Store, I get a message saying the following:

"Your PC isn't connected to the Internet. To use the Store, connect to the Internet and then try again."

Obviously, this isn't true, as I can browse the web perfectly normally with a web browser, and all other applications are able to access the internet. I have made sure my proxy settings are unchecked, so that should not be the issue. The odd thing is that the App Store was working fine about two weeks ago, but then it hit this message and it hasn't changed. Restarting the computer has no effect on the message.

Running the Music app (which I downloaded when the App Store was still working) has a similar error. When I open the Music app, and click the "Sign in" link, the following error code shows up:

"0xc00d11b2 (0x80072af9)"

I am running Windows 8 Enterprise, if that makes a difference.

Is there a solution to this issue?

Do the following steps:

Disable Proxy

If you are using proxy to connect internet please disable that, refer to the steps below to disable proxy:

  1. Press “Windows Key” + “R”.
  2. Type “inetcpl.cpl”.
  3. Go to Connection.
  4. Click on LAN Settings.
  5. Check the box which says Automatically detect settings.
  6. Uncheck the box under Proxy server.

If you are still facing issues with it, please follow the steps below:

Reset Windows Update Component.

This will reset and reregister Windows Update Components. This usually solves Windows update related problems.

Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

I worked with Microsoft support on this problem.

On my system we realized that the Windows Store App worked fine for other local accounts on my PC just not for my account.

While logged in as me the technician ran WSReset.exe (which clears out the Windows Store app cache) and as soon as that was done my Windows Store app started to work as it should.

Your mileage may vary, but it worked for me.

@WinstonM, I am running into this issue again. It happens intermittently, but after couple of hours elapse OneDrive icon in File Explorer is overlaid by yellow exclamation mark and Modren OneDrive app complain your PC is not connected.

It seems like, it stops trying to connect after few hours (or days, as I don't restart/shutdown my computer quite often). Restarting the computer fix it.

    Hi,

You may run the SFC scannow tool and restart the computer to check if the issue persists. SFC /scannow is a super-useful command you can use in any Windows version. When the SFC (System File Checker) command is used with the /scannow switch, the tool will scan all of the important Windows files on your computer and replace them as necessary. Missing and corrupt operating system files (like many DLL files) are arguably the biggest cause of major Windows issues.

Refer to these steps to perform a SFC scan:

    a) Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated command prompt.

    b) In the command prompt type the following command: sfc  /scannow and press enter.

    c) After the scan, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Reply with the status of the issue and we will be glad to offer our assistance.

Windows 8 Store does not efficiently check the internet connection but only the presence of available connections on the Windows 8 network connection pane.

    Hello everyone,

    please read my posting if:

    1. you have a working internet connection, despite Windows tells you to have no active internet connection on the Windows 8 Network Connection Pane
    2. all usual methods Microsoft provided to fix the problem failed for you
    3. The Store keeps telling you to have no internet connection, while browsing the Internet with Internet Explorer works. (Test this fact explicitly, even if you do not use IE normally)

I found out that the Windows 8.x has got a basic problem in design, because it seems to check the Windows network pane whether you have a working internet connected or not. You can see this by clicking on the network icon in your taskbar. He will open the new network connections pane in Windows 8 / Server 2012. This pane may tell you have no connection, even if you have one.

    How could this happen?

If someone is using a WLAN (wireless) USB stick, like AVM Fritz!WLAN Stick or another one where the software controls the network connection and does not report the connection state to the Wireless connection state to Windows, you will find yourself with this problem.

For the Fritz!WLAN-N Stick there is a hotfix driver that exactly fixes this issue, but older sticks are not compatible with this Windows 8 driver hotfix.

So again: as soon you use a wireless USB Stick and you click on the Windows Network Connections icon and he tells you there is no network connection, despite you are successfully connected to the internet but this connection is controlled by a 3rd party (vendor) app you will run into this issue.

The only solution is then to force Windows to control this wireless device or if you cannot establish a connection without the vendor tool, you have too lookout for a new driver or stick that supports Windows 8.

To be honest I was shocked by this, that the shop indeed only checks the windows connection.

Hope this was helpful for some of you.

If someone has the abilities please report this to Microsoft so they can fix this. They could easily fix this by letting the store checking an existing internet connection with a DNS lookup or something like that instead of apparently checking the network API of Windows only.

    Cheers,

    Karl
