A timeout occurred while waiting for the EHCI host controller Asynchronous Schedule to transition to the enabled state.

When I'm using my computer running Windows 8 Pro x64 randomly all of the USB's will freeze up, yet the PC will still run fine. Then they will all come back online a little while later.

By online my WiFi adapter doesn't seem to re-initiate.

Checking the events log I see a flurry of the following error.

"A timeout occurred while waiting for the EHCI host controller Asynchronous Schedule to transition to the enabled state."

Thanks,

Those of you with USB WiFi adapters based on Atheros AR9271 chips (TP-Link WN722N, Netgear WNA1100 etc.) might want to try this.

I found a driver in the windows update catalog that is newer (version 2.0.0.49) than the one offered by windows update (2.0.0.32) that seems to have cured all the WiFi drops I was getting under heavy network load.

Atheros AR9271 Driver x64

You'll have to extract the .cab(inet) archive and then do a manual driver install (right click the adapter in device manager, update drivers and then pick the location manually, point it to where you unpacked the driver, from the 'have disk' dialog)

I have been running this for over a month and have not had any network specific drops since. Now, if I could only find a fix for the joystick drops in FSX...sigh

Notice, this is the 64bit driver, I cannot comment on the x86 driver one way or the other.

Also, if you are already running version 2.0.0.49 of the driver and still have problems, obviously this won't help you.

Hope this helps someone, best of luck.

Much thanks, this REALLY helps on tplink W822N

Problem solved~~~

    Arrgh,

I have just upgraded my stable win7 to win8.1 and am experiencing these time-outs on USB!

I use a ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 with a Phenom X6. Be warned! Stay with Win7 if you own an 'older' ASUS AMD Mobo!

I have a USB audio interface and a USB Wifi adapter both showing these issues!

I am going back to Win7 again, as there seems to be no light in the tunnel!

I thought there might be a glimmer in the proverbial tunnel but must be a gas lamp and I was sure I  could smell methane down here too (I am still using Win 8 and no hint of any solution)!

I wonder if MS is really serious about Win 8?

    Andre,

Thank you for letting the group know that 8.1 still has this issue. I was planning on trying this myself, but was expecting the same results you posted.  So at least know that you have saved a lot of us the time and trouble you experienced. Again, thank you.  Until AMD starts looking into this and releases a patched driver for the USB controllers, I don't think we will ever get a solution.

Windows 8.1 on MSI 990FXA-GD80 - still having this issue.

Linksys AE1000 caused way too many usbehci timouts. I've changed it to AE3000 - it seems a bit more stable; however, still getting timeouts. In most cases though, my AE3000 is able to reinitialize and I don't lose my keyboard/mouse. Either way, this results in a very poor experience.

Looks like nobody @ MS / AMD cares...
