"Your organization's policies are preventing us from completing this action for you. For more info, please contact your help desk."

Well, I AM my help desk as this is my personal laptop. I'm not sure what I did to have this get set up somewhere, the only things I've ever messed with were the OEM Background picture when logging on and to disable the autorun features to prevent installation of malware from infected usb drives that I interact with on campus frequently giving me enough time to scan them before activating them.

I tried going back into the registry and setting the policy for autorun to be unconfigured again as it was default and it didn't fix the problem.

I get that error message when using various MS Office products, 2010 and 2013, when trying to go to an external link in a document/program or when trying to hyperlink within a document (e.g. Table of Contents --> Page 23...) But I know it isn't specifically office, or at least I think.

Thoughts on what I can do?

    It worked for me too.

    -Closed internet explorer and Outlook

    -Installed Firefox browser

    -Set Firefox as default browser

    -Started Internet explorer

-Went to internet options and set it as default browser

    Probem solved.

    Thanks Alin.

After updating to Windows 10 the hyperlinks in my excel spreadsheets stopped working and I received the same message as you "Your organization's policies are preventing us from completing this action for you. For more info, please contact your help desk"  Since this is a personal PC and I also am my own help desk I did an internet search and eventually found this link at microsoft.com

http://support2.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310049   I downloaded the easy fix program

Microsoftfixit20056.mini  ran it and then rebooted issue resolved.

This worked like a charm. I didn't think of it before but after reading the posts I realized that I did uninstall Chrome around the time this started occurring.

I was able to fix this in Windows 10 by:

    • Set Firefox as Default app/program for Web Pages.
    • Set Edge as Default app/program for Web Pages.
    • Re-Started Outlook and attempted to open Link.

    Links now work fine.
