Will let it complete it's last stage.  Is it normal

for it to take this long.  The computer has been running since Tuesday

11-20-12.  Not sure if the HardDrive is failing, because that computer is

not my primary and is not used that much.  Will keep trying if this will resolve

the problem.

Since this is not your regular computer I would recommend you simply re-install Windows if possible. The time you have spent with check disk you could have re-installed Windows and all your applications. You may want to test the hard drive prior to doing so.

If you do choose to re-install I recommend doing a low level format of the hard drive with Dban or KillDisk first. Let us know how you wish to proceed and we'll instruct you.

How do I stop CheckDisk.  This whole process has taking to long and not

even sure if this will correct the problem.  Checking the file system on C:

was complete a few days ago and then proceeded to start checking something

else during the various stages of this check.  The current stage is now at only

13% complete with the computer running 24/7.

Some good news.  I have the XP Windows Home Edition Install Software.

If and when I do the reinstall, what are the consequences such as losing

everything if there was no backup.  Look forwad to your response.

A repair install should keep all your personal files, however a repair install is not a good thing in your situation since checkdisk has found so many errors a lot of your data might be unrecoverable.

Checkdisk should never be stopped during its run as that is like performing ungraceful shutdown and causes even more corruption.

However, since it has been in my opinion way too long by now, you should cancel it.

You can do a reinstall with a full format or use Darik's as per Tech-Geek, but I would not use that hard drive.

Clean installs of XP sites

After cancelling see if it can reboot into any mode and maybe get your files back.
