Were you able to successfully use your Ubuntu CD on a WORKING PC?

In the event the answer is no, my guess is that you didn't create the CD properly (that is, it is not a bootable CD).

No, a bit on the edge to attempt using the Ubuntu CD on a working PC

where the CD was burned that might mess up the working PC and put

me in the dumps of no working PC.  Fortunately I have more then one

computer.  Beginning to get overwhelmed with all this tech stuff.  I just

know the ailing PC is attempting to boot from the C:\ Drive.  How do I

get it to Boot from the CD.  I've gone into Setup and it shows the First

Boot Device is the CDRom , Second Boot Device is the Floppy and the

Third Boot Device is HDD-O.  Don't know if this helps.

Unless you successfully boot off the live Ubuntu CD on another PC, we must conclude that the disk might be bad.

As long as you don't INSTALL Ubuntu, you have nothing to worry about!

If this is too overwhelming, you should find a technician and pay him/her to do what you need. There is no sense in giving yourself a panic attack over this!

Davee is correct. The disc isn't bootable. If that is not the problem then your cd/dvd rom drive is bad.

A question for you. Did you use ImgBurn > "Write image file to disc" to burn the Ubuntu disc? If not, that is the problem. Burning an iso image file is not the same as burning ordinary data files. It MUST be burned using an iso image burning software in order for it to be bootable.

No, I did not use IMGBurn.  Just learned something new again.

The Ubuntu should automatically run from the CD when the computer

was booted, what it is doing right now, attempting to Boot from the

C:\ and failing.  How do I get it to Boot from the CD Drive.  BIOS Setup

shows the CD to be the First Boot Device,  Floppy is the second Boot

Device and the HDD-O is the Third Boot Device.  This is the info that

I see on the link for Advaced BIOS Features.

Well you just discovered the answer to the problem. You didn't follow instructions to use ImgBurn to burn the Ubuntu file. You took it upon yourself to use another software even though the instructions clearly state to use ImgBurn. You then ask why it's not bootable.

As stated, an iso image file like Ubuntu is NOT the same as burning other data. It must be burned using an iso burning software. Your computer can be set to boot from a cd seven ways to Sunday. If the iso image (Ubuntu) was not burned to a disc using the proper burning software it will not boot from the cd.

The bios boot options on your computer are fine. Forget about the bios. It's a non-issue here. The issue is how Ubuntu was burned to a disc.

There is no need to feel overwhelmed. None of this is rocket science. It only requires you follow directions to the letter and not to stray off on your own adventure. Follow each and every instruction. If you have a question STOP and ask.

Burn the file again using ImgBurn. You can uninstall it when you are done.

Edit: As noted by Davee, if you feel you cannot resolve this issue alone then by all means take the computer to a professional. I would imagine, however, to recover your data and re-install Windows would be quite expensive. If you choose that route make sure they give you a disc and the product key.
