Davee is correct. The disc isn't bootable. If that is not the problem then your cd/dvd rom drive is bad.

A question for you. Did you use ImgBurn > "Write image file to disc" to burn the Ubuntu disc? If not, that is the problem. Burning an iso image file is not the same as burning ordinary data files. It MUST be burned using an iso image burning software in order for it to be bootable.

Were you able to successfully use your Ubuntu CD on a WORKING PC?

In the event the answer is no, my guess is that you didn't create the CD properly (that is, it is not a bootable CD).

I cannot tell you why you are getting the error. It sounds like the flash thumb drive may need to be formatted, but I don't want to engage into a different issue getting us off track of our original issue.

You can try to format the flash drive to see if that resolves the issue.

To format it, insert the drive. Navigate to My Computer. Locate the drive then right click on it. Choose format. A new small window will open. Place a check mark in the box for "Quick Format". Allow it to complete.

If that doesn't work you can email the file to yourself. Now boot from the Ubuntu disc. Open the internet browser and download the file from your email.

Mission Accomplished with the Flash Drive.  Fortunately I had another

new flash drive to try.  It works.  The Boot.ini is on the Flash Drive.  Will

now go forward with the next steps and get back to you.

Stuck Again.  Flash Drive issue resolved, now dealing with other roadblocks

with the ailing computer.

Great job! Don't forget to get all of your personal data. I cannot over express the importance of getting it asap. The error you are receiving could be the result of a failing hard drive. If the hard drive crashes you are outta luck getting the data without a bunch of work which may not even pay off. If you have to do so you can transfer a little at a time to your primary computer using a flash drive.
